Tephritidae
The Tephritidae are one of two fly families referred to as fruit flies, the other family being the Drosophilidae. The family Tephritidae does not include the biological model organisms of the genus '' Drosophila'' (in the family Drosophilidae), which is often called the "common fruit fly". Nearly 5,000 described species of tephritid fruit fly are categorized in almost 500 genera of the Tephritidae. Description, recategorization, and genetic analyses are constantly changing the taxonomy of this family. To distinguish them from the Drosophilidae, the Tephritidae are sometimes called peacock flies, in reference to their elaborate and colorful markings. ''Proanoplomus tenompokensis'' is a species of fruit fly in the family Tephritidae. It is found Malaysia. Description The species is known from a single male specimen collected in 1959. The body is 5.5 mm. (0.22 in.) long and the wing is 6 mm. (0.24 in). It is distinguished from the similar species ''P. cinereofasciatus'', ''P. formosanus'', and ''P. nigroscutellatus'' by having dark brown to black postpronotal lobes with yellow margins. Distribution It has only been found in Sabah, Eastern Malaysia. Etymology Part of the label on the holotype says: "British N.
