This is a list of the winning and nominated programs of the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Main Title Design presented for the best main title sequence in television programming. Prior to 1997, the award was presented for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Graphic Design and Title Sequences or Outstanding Graphic Design and Title Sequences. In the 1980s and early 1990s, the award was presented with the "possibility of one, more than one, or no award given," resulting in years where there were nominees without any winner or multiple winners. The 29th Primetime Emmy Awards were held on Sunday, September 11, 1977. The ceremony was broadcast on NBC. It was hosted by Angie Dickinson and Robert Blake. The 32nd Primetime Emmy Awards were held on Sunday, September 7, 1980, at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. The awards show was hosted by Steve Allen and Dick Clark and broadcast on NBC. For the second year in a row, the top series awards went to the same shows, ''Taxi'' and '' Lou Grant''. ''Lou Grant'' was the most successful show of the night winning five major awards. The 31st Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony was held on Sunday, September 9, 1979. The ceremony was broadcast on the ABC. It was hosted by Henry Winkler and Cheryl Ladd. This ceremony is remembered for problems with the Pasadena Civic Auditorium's air-conditioning. The top shows of the night were ''Taxi'', which pulled an upset in the Outstanding Comedy Series field when it beat ''All in the Familys final season, and '' Lou Grant'', which received 12 major nominations and won two awards including Outstanding Drama Series. John DeCuir
John DeCuir (June 4, 1918 – October 29, 1991) was a Hollywood art director and production designer known for his elaborate set designs that were illustrated with his own watercolor paintings.http://www.adg.org/?content=cm§ion=14 www.adg.org DeCuir studied at the Chouinard Art School, joined Universal in the late 1930s, and by the mid-1940s was designing sets. In 1949, he signed with 20th Century Fox where he worked on productions with elaborate sets. These included dramatic material such as '' The House on Telegraph Hill'' (1951), musicals including ''There's No Business Like Show Business'' 1954), and comedy ''Ghostbusters'' (1984). DeCuir earned eleven Oscar nominations, winning three: ''The King and I'' (1956), ''Cleopatra'' (1963), and '' Hello, Dolly!'' (1969).
