The Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program is a Creative Arts Emmy Award which is given annually to an animated series. In the following list, the first titles listed in gold are the winners; those not in gold are nominees, which are listed in alphabetical order. The years given are those in which the ceremonies took place. Rules Animated programs have the option to compete in broader program categories such as Outstanding Comedy Series, but cannot also submit for Outstanding Animation Program in the same year. ''The Simpsons'', for instance, unsuccessfully submitted the episodes " A Streetcar Named Marge" and " Mr. Plow" in 1993 and 1994 while ''Family Guy'' was successfully nominated in 2009. Several animated programs won Outstanding Children's Program prior to 1979 and, in the years since, ''Rugrats'', ''Winnie the Pooh'' specials and ''Star Wars Rebels'' have been nominated for that award. The Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Short Form Animated Program is a Creative Arts Emmy Award which is given annually beginning in 2008 to an animated series or special of 15 minutes or shorter in length. In 2008 and 2009, the category was called "Outstanding Special Class Short-Format Animated Program", and was an "area" award which could have one, more than one, or no, winners; starting in 2010, the name was changed, and it was made a "category" award which (unless there is a tie) must have one winner. Note that a show whose episodes mainly consist of multiple stories, each 15 minutes or shorter, can either enter one story in this category, or a full episode in the Outstanding Animated Program category. Isadore "Friz" Freleng (; August 21, 1905May 26, 1995), credited as I. Freleng early in his career, was an American animator, cartoonist, Film director, director, Film producer, producer, and composer known for his work at Warner Bros. Cartoons on the ''Looney Tunes'' and ''Merrie Melodies'' series of cartoons from the 1930s to the early 1960s. In total he created more than 300 cartoons. He introduced and/or developed several of the studio's biggest stars, including Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Tweety, Sylvester the Cat, Sylvester, Yosemite Sam (to whom he was said to bear more than a passing resemblance), Granny (Looney Tunes), Granny, and Speedy Gonzales. (renamed ''Pontoffel Pock & His Magic Piano'' for the sing-a-long videocassette release) is an animated musical television special written by Dr. Seuss, directed by Gerard Baldwin, produced by DePatie–Freleng Enterprises, and completed in 1979 but first aired on ABC on May 2, 1980. This was one of the final productions done at DePatie–Freleng as the studio would be sold to Marvel Comics and become Marvel Productions in 1981. Gerald David "Lorenzo" Music (May 2, 1937 – August 4, 2001) was an American actor, composer, musician, performer, writer and producer. Music began his career in the 1960s with his wife, Henrietta, forming the comedy duo Gerald and His Hen. He then became a writer and a regular performer on the controversial CBS variety show ''The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour''. In the 1970s, Music co-created the sitcom '' The Bob Newhart Show'' with David Davis and composed its theme music with his wife. ''Carlton Your Doorman'' is a 1980 American television pilot for an animated spin-off of the live-action sitcom '' Rhoda'' (1974–1978) that was never picked up as a series. The 32nd Primetime Emmy Awards were held on Sunday, September 7, 1980, at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. The awards show was hosted by Steve Allen and Dick Clark and broadcast on NBC. José Cuauhtémoc "Bill" Melendez (November 15, 1916 – September 2, 2008) was an American animator, director, producer, and voice actor. Melendez is known for working on the ''Peanuts'' animated specials, as well as providing the voices of Snoopy and Woodstock. Before ''Peanuts'', he previously worked as an animator for Walt Disney Productions, Warner Bros. Cartoons, and UPA. In a career spanning over 60 years, he won six Primetime Emmy Awards and was nominated for thirteen more. In addition, he was nominated for an Oscar and five Grammy Awards. Leland Maurice Mendelson (March 24, 1933 – December 25, 2019) was an American animation producer and executive producer of many ''Peanuts'' animated specials. Biography Mendelson was born in San Francisco and grew up in San Mateo graduating from San Mateo High School. He graduated from Stanford University in 1954 with a degree in English. He was a lieutenant in the Air Force for three years. He then worked several years for his father, a vegetable grower and shipper. Career Mendelson's career in television began in 1961, when he started working at San Francisco's KPIX-TV, where he created public service announcements. A fortunate find of some antique film footage of the 1915 San Francisco World's Fair led to Mendelson's first production, a documentary entitled ''The Innocent Fair''.
