President Of Welsh Tribunals
The President of Welsh Tribunals () is a senior judge in Wales who presides over the Tribunals in the United Kingdom, Welsh tribunal system. The position was established by the Wales Act 2017 and is the first senior judicial role relating solely to Wales. The President of the Welsh Tribunals is not a devolved subject matter, however the Senedd may create additional Welsh tribunals. Appointment and functions The President of Welsh Tribunals is appointed by the Lord Chief Justice after consultation with the Welsh Ministers and Lord Chancellor, if no agreement is met then the recruitment may be referred to the Judicial Appointments Commission. The President of the Welsh Tribunals must satisfy the judicial-appointment eligibility condition on a seven-year basis. Gary Hickinbottom
Sir Gary Robert Hickinbottom (born 22 December 1955) is a British judge who currently serves as President of Welsh Tribunals and as Knight Principal of the Imperial Society of Knights Bachelor. In 2008, he became the fourth solicitor to be appointed a High Court judge (England and Wales), High Court judge, after Michael Sachs (judge), Michael Sachs in 1993, Lawrence Collins, Baron Collins of Mapesbury, Lawrence Collins in 2000, and Henry Hodge in 2004. Legal career He was admitted as a solicitor in 1981, and later became a partner at McKenna & Co (now part of CMS Cameron McKenna). He became a recorder (judge), recorder in 1994 and then a Circuit judge (UK), circuit judge in 2001. Judiciaries Of The United Kingdom
The judiciaries of the United Kingdom are the separate judiciaries of the three legal systems in England and Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland. The judges of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, the Special Immigration Appeals Commission, Employment Tribunals, Employment Appeal Tribunal and the UK tribunals system do have a United Kingdom-wide jurisdiction but judgments only apply directly to the jurisdiction from which a case originates as the same case points and principles do not inevitably apply in the other jurisdictions. The Senior President of Tribunals is a senior judge in the United Kingdom who presides over the UK tribunal system. The Senior President is appointed by the monarch of the United Kingdom on the advice of the Lord Chancellor following the recommendation of an independent selection panel under the auspices of the Judicial Appointments Commission. Wyn Williams
Sir Wyn Lewis Williams (born 31 March 1951) is a British judge who served as President of Welsh Tribunals from 2017 to 2023. He had been a High Court judge from 2007 to 2017. Early life and education Wyn Lewis Williams was born in Ferndale in the Rhondda to Ronald and Nellie Williams. Educated at Rhondda County Grammar school he matriculated at Corpus Christi College, Oxford, before entering the Inns of Court School of Law in London. Legal career Williams was called to the bar (Inner Temple) in 1974 and made a bencher in 2007. He practised in Cardiff from 1974 to 1988 and in London from 1988 to 2004. The Agricultural Land Tribunal for Wales (ALTW) is a tribunal sponsored by the Welsh Government that deal with disputes related to agricultural holdings. It is established under Section 73 of the Agriculture Act 1947, and also has powers under the Agricultural Holdings Act 1986 and Land Drainage Act 1991.
