Presidency of Migration Management (PMM) (Turkish: Göç İdaresi Başkanlığı) is the administrative, legislate and operational central-governmental authority responsible for overall migration and international protection affairs in Turkey. It is tasked with coordination of international labor, education, health, social policy and security. It cooperates very closely with relevant governmental institutions in diverse areas of migration. The institution was established during Turkey's migrant crisis under the Ministry of the Interior. Turkey's Migrant Crisis
Turkey's migrant crisis, sometimes referred to as Turkey's refugee crisis, was a period during the 2010s characterized by high numbers of people migrating to Turkey to take up residence in the country. Turkey received the highest number of registered refugees of any country or territory every year from 2014 to 2019, and had the world's largest refugee population according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The majority were refugees of the Syrian Civil War, numbering 3,591,892 as of June 2020. In 2018 the UNHCR reported that Turkey hosted 63.4% of all the " registered Syrian refugees." The Ministry of Interior or Ministry of the Interior or Interior Ministry ( tr, İçişleri Bakanlığı lit. Ministry of Internal Affairs) is a government ministry of the Republic of Turkey, responsible for interior security affairs in Turkey. The current Minister of the Interior is Süleyman Soylu, after the resignation of his predecessor Efkan Ala in August 2016. Functions The ministry is responsible for disaster and emergency management, immigration, inspection of local government, gendarmerie and coast guard (in peacetime), and police.
