It first appeared in the top 1,000 most popular names for girls in the United States in 1978, when it ranked at 989. It was ranked in the top 500 names given to newborn American girls between 1987 and 2002. It has since fallen in popularity and was last ranked in the top 1,000 names for girls in 2010. In 2011, there were 195 newborn American girls given the name; in 2012 there were 154 American girls given the name. In the United States, the name has been used predominantly by African Americans. According to one study, of 454 girls named Precious in California during the 1990s, 431 of them were African American. Precious Wilson
Precious Wilson (born 18 October 1957 in Spanish Town, Jamaica) is a Jamaican soul singer. Background Precious Wilson started out as a backing singer for the singing group Eruption. The group enjoyed their first minor success when they won a talent competition in 1975, and then went on to record the song "Let Me Take You Back in Time". Shortly after, the lead singer left the group, and Precious Wilson stepped forward to front the band. The group relocated to Germany in 1976. The following year while on the road touring in West Germany, Eruption was introduced to German producer Frank Farian who booked them to work with Boney M as their backing band, and as their support act on Boney M's first European tour. Ramona Lofton, better known by her pen name Sapphire, is an American author and Performance poetry, performance poet. Early life Ramona Lofton was born in Fort Ord, California, one of four children of an Army couple who relocated within the United States and abroad. After a disagreement concerning where the family would settle, her parents separated, with Lofton's mother "kind of abandoning them". Precious Monye Onyabor (born 22 December 1974) is a Nigerian retired footballer. Career Monye signed with Italian side Reggiana 1919, and was loaned out to second division side Cosenza Calcio and Hungarian side Videoton, where he became the club's first ever black player.
