Powerlifting At The 2016 Summer Paralympics – Women's 61 Kg
The women's 61 kg powerlifting event at the 2016 Summer Paralympics was contested on 11 September at Riocentro, Riocentro Pavilion 2. Lin Ya-hsuan, representing Chinese Taipei at the 2016 Summer Paralympics, Chinese Taipei competed in Paralympic Games, the Games for the fourth consecutive time. The best outcome out of three attempts counted as the final results. The athlete who placed first in each event was allowed a fourth attempt to break the Paralympic powerlifting, Paralympic or world record. Records There are twenty powerlifting events, corresponding to ten weight classes each for men and women. The weight categories were significantly adjusted after the Powerlifting at the 2012 Summer Paralympics, 2012 Games so most of the weights are new for 2016. Paralympic powerlifting, also known as para powerlifting and para-lifting, is an adaptation of the sport of powerlifting for athletes with disabilities. The only discipline in Paralympic powerlifting is the bench press. Mariana D'Andrea
Mariana D'Andrea (born 12 February 1998) is a Brazilian Paralympic powerlifter. She won the gold medal in the women's 73kg event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics held in Tokyo, Japan. She is the first competitor representing Brazil to win a gold medal in powerlifting at the Paralympics. A few months later, she won the silver medal in her event at the 2021 World Para Powerlifting Championships held in Tbilisi, Georgia. Powerlifting at the 2012 Summer Paralympics was held at ExCeL London from 30 August to 5 September, with a maximum of 200 athletes (120 men and 80 women), competing in 20 events. Lucy Ogechukwu Ejike (born 16 October 1977) is a Nigerian Paralympic powerlifter. She has represented her country at six consecutive Paralympic Games from 2000 in Sydney through to 2021 in Tokyo.
