Portuguese People In Pakistan
Portuguese in Pakistan are citizens or residents of Pakistan who are of Portuguese background. As of 2021 there are only 64 Portuguese citizens registered as living in Pakistan. Background The presence of a small Portuguese community in what is modern-day Pakistan is historically known. Most people of Portuguese extract can be found among the country's Goan community, concentrated in Karachi much before the independence of Pakistan. These settlers hailed from Goa in Western India and in order to avail economic opportunities, migrated to major commercial centres during the British Raj, Karachi being among them. In 1510, Goa was annexed by the Portuguese as one of its overseas colonies in India, and remained under Portuguese rule until the Indian annexation of Goa in 1961. Luso-Indians or Portuguese-Indian, is a subgroup of the larger multiracial ethnic creole people of Luso-Asians. Dilshad Vadsaria (born ) is an American television actress. She is known for her role as Rebecca Logan on the ABC Family television program ''Greek'' and for the film ''30 Minutes or Less''. Early life and education Vadsaria was born in Karachi, Pakistan, and is of Indian and Portuguese descent. She moved with her family to the United States at the age of six and spent her childhood in various parts of the country, including Chicago, Richmond, and Philadelphia. Bernadette Louise Dean is a Christian Pakistani academic and educator, of Portuguese and Anglo-Indian descent. Formerly the principal of two women's colleges in Pakistan and a participant in revising Pakistan's national curriculum, she was accused of being a foreigner and forced to leave the country in 2015 by death threats from Islamic extremists after her role in working to secularize school textbooks became known. She has since become an academic administrator at the University of Central Asia. Mervyn Middlecoat
Wing Commander Mervyn Leslie Middlecoat (6 July 1931 – 12 December 1971) was a Pakistani fighter pilot in the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) who was involved in a number of aerial battles during the 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pakistani wars, before being shot down on 12 December 1971. He was one of a number of distinguished Pakistani strike and fighter pilots of the period. Before his death he was stationed at Mauripur, Karachi, Pakistan where he flew the F-104 Starfighter. Early life Middlecoat was born into an Anglo-Indian family in Ludhiana in July 1931 on a train traveling from Lahore to Delhi. He also had some French and Portuguese ancestry. Max Rodrigues
Max John Rodrigues was born in Karachi, Pakistan (then British India), on 29 May 1938. He entered the seminary in 1957 and spent seven years of his priestly formation at the Pontifical Urban University in Rome. Career He was ordained a priest by Pope Paul VI at St. Peter's Basilica on 6 January 1966. Among his many appointments was serving as Assistant Parish Priest at Saint Francis of Assisi Parish, Karachi and Principal of St Paul's High School from 1984 to 2000. On 3 December 1999 he was appointed Bishop of Hyderabad by Pope John Paul II, and consecrated on 25 March 2000 by Archbishop Simeon Anthony Pereira of Karachi in the presence of the papal nuncio to Pakistan. Goan Catholic
Goan Catholics ( gom, Goenchem Katholik) are an ethno-religious community of Indian Christians following the Roman Rite of worship from the Goa state, in the southern part of the Konkan region along the west coast of India. They are Konkani people and speak the Konkani language. Portuguese People
The Portuguese people () are a Romance nation and ethnic group indigenous to Portugal who share a common culture, ancestry and language.
