Portrait Of Doctor Rey
''Portrait of Doctor Rey'' is an oil on canvas painting by Vincent van Gogh, produced at Arles, probably between 7 and 17 January 1889, falling between his departure from hospital on the former date and letter 571 to his brother Theo on the latter date which mentions giving the work to its subject as a keepsake. It shows his 'Japanising' style of that period and is now in the Pushkin Museum, in Moscow. Background It shows Félix Rey, a doctor at Arles' hospital, who healed the artist following the fit of epilepsy or dementia in which he cut off part of his ear. Rey and his family found it ridiculous and unrealistic and so used it for over ten years to block a hole in a chicken coop, then probably put it in their loft. In April 1901, the future painter Charles Camoin was billeted at Arles as part of France's 55th Line Infantry Regiment. A (or critical catalogue) is an annotated listing of the works of an artist or group of artists and can contain all works or a selection of works categorised by different parameters such as medium or period. A ''catalogue raisonné'' is normally produced by the artist or by a committee of family members, experts or academics, collectively known as "producers". The catalogue ordinarily contains a list of characteristics of an artwork such as the title, year of production, dimensions, medium and a description of the work, alongside an image of the work. Jacob Baart De La Faille
Jacob Baart de la Faille (1 June 1886 – 7 August 1959) compiled the first ''catalogue raisonné'' of the work of Vincent van Gogh, published in 1928. The catalogue was revised and republished by an editorial committee in 1970, and this version is considered to be the definitive catalogue of van Gogh's work. His catalogue numbers are preceded by an "'F": thus ''The Starry Night'' is designated F612. Shortly after the publication of the original catalogue, de la Faille became involved in a major fraud affair concerning the Berlin art dealer Otto Wacker. De la Faille had certified the authenticity of 30 paintings which were later determined to be fakes. Biography Jacob-Baart de la Faille was born in Leeuwarden to a Dutch father, Cornelis Baart de la Faille, and a Belgian mother, Henriette Adriana Krayenhoff. Eugène Druet (26 June 1867 - 21 January 1916) was a French photographer and art dealer. Life He was born at 206 rue du Faubourg-Saint-Martin in Paris to Eugène Alphonse Druet and Alphonine Augustine Herbinière, then grocers.
