Porto (Assembly Of The Republic Constituency)
Porto is one of the 22 multi-member constituencies of the Assembly of the Republic, the national legislature of Portugal. The constituency was established in 1976 when the Assembly of the Republic was established by the constitution following the restoration of democracy. It is conterminous with the district of Porto. The constituency currently elects 40 of the 230 members of the Assembly of the Republic using the closed party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2024 legislative election it had 1,591,760 registered electors. The Assembly of the Republic ( Portuguese: ''Assembleia da República'', ), commonly referred to as simply Parliament ( Portuguese: ''Parlamento''), is the unicameral parliament of Portugal. According to the Constitution of Portugal, the parliament "is the representative assembly of all Portuguese citizens". The constitution names the assembly as one of the country's organs of supreme authority. It is located in a historical building in Lisbon, referred to as '' Palácio de São Bento'' (Palace of Saint Benedict), the site of an old Benedictine monastery. Manuel Alfredo da Rocha Maia (born 13 March 1962) is a Portuguese journalist, politician and member of the Assembly of the Republic, the national legislature of Portugal. A communist, he has represented Porto since September 2023. He had previously been a temporary substitute member of the Assembly from September 2022 to March 2023. Maia was born on 13 March 1962. Alberto Josué Machado Becerril (born September 9, 1990) is a Puerto Rican professional boxer who held the WBA (Super) super featherweight title from 2017 to 2018. And held the WBA (Regular) super featherweight title from 2018 to 2018. Amateur career Machado started boxing at 10, in Monte Hatillo, San Juan. Joana Ferreira Lima (born 1963) is a Portuguese politician. The Liberal Initiative ( pt, Iniciativa Liberal, , IL) is a liberal political party in Portugal currently led by João Cotrim de Figueiredo.
