Cristian Popescu Piedone (born 15 February 1963) is a Romanian convicted felon and politician who served as mayor of Bucharest's Sector 4 from 2008 until the 4 November 2015, when he resigned following the Colectiv nightclub fire and the subsequent 2015 Romanian protests. Călin Constantin Anton Popescu-Tăriceanu (; born 14 January 1952) is a Romanian politician who was Prime Minister of Romania from 29 December 2004 to 22 December 2008. He was also president of the National Liberal Party (PNL) and the vice-president of the European Liberal Democrat and Reform Party (ELDR), two positions he assumed in 2004. Everitt Distinguished Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Elvira Popescu (; in French, Elvire Popesco; 10 May 1894 – 11 December 1993) was a Romanian-French stage and film actress and theatre director. During the 1930s and 1940s, she starred in a number of French comedy films. Gheorghe "Gică" Popescu (; born 9 October 1967) is a Romanian former professional football player who played as a defender. He notably played in La Liga where he is a former captain of FC Barcelona. Ion Popescu-Gopo (; 1 May 1923 – 28 November 1989) was a Romanian graphic artist and animator, but also writer, film director, and actor. He was born in Bucharest, Romania. He was a prominent personality in the Romanian cinematography and the founder of the modern Romanian cartoon school.
