Pone is a type of baked or fried bread in American cuisine, and the Cuisine of the Southern United States. Pone could be made with corn pone, corn, or some other main ingredient could be used like sweet potato. This style of bread, eaten cold as a breakfast food, was a staple food of the cuisine of the Thirteen Colonies. Terminology The term "pone" most likely entered English from Native American language terms like ''apan'', ''oppone'' or ''supawn'', meaning baked, possibly related to earlier ash cakes baked in hot coals. A "Cornbread#Corn_pone, corn pone" is usually a small round loaf of cornbread, about the size of a biscuit, traditionally baked in a round cast iron skillet. The batter was also called "corn pone" and could be thin and fried on the griddle to make Johnny cakes or thicker to make baked loaves ("pone"), or dumplings, called corn dodgers when dropped in stews and hushpuppy, hush puppies when deep fried. Pone (surname)
Gundaris Pone (October 17, 1932 – March 15, 1994) was a Latvian-American composer of contemporary classical music, conductor, and professor. Born in Riga, Latvia, he emigrated to the United States in 1950 after his fleeing the advancing Soviet troops, where he earned a doctorate in music from the University of Minnesota in 1962. In 1963 he moved to New Paltz, New York, where he served as a professor at the State University College at New Paltz, New York. He was a winner of a Kennedy Center Friedheim Award (first place, 1982). He died of cancer at the Benedictine Hospital in Kingston, New York on March 15, 1994, at the age of 61. His wife was a concert pianist. Pone and his wife had two children. Adrian Pone, Born December 20, 1964, was a colonel and fighter pilot in the United States Air Force. Pone Kingpetch (, , ), born Mana Seedokbuab (, , ; February 12, 1935 – March 31, 1982), was a Thai professional boxer and three time Undisputed World Flyweight Champion. Early life Pone Kingpetch (born Mana Sidokbuap) was the seventh of nine children born to Hoi and Riew Sidokbuap in the Hua Hin district. He attended Sathukarn Secondary School until the fourth grade before transferring to the Hua Hin District School, where he completed his ninth-grade studies. Kingpetch completed his secondary school education at Hua Hin Wittayalai School. Kingpetch was extensively involved in many sports. But his favorite sport was always boxing, going on to tell his friends he would become the first boxing world champion from Thailand. Guilhem Gallart
Guilhem Gallart, known professionally as Pone, is a French record producer. He was a member of the band Fonky Family. Early life Born in Toulouse, he left at 19 for Marseille. Music Fonky Family In 1994, he co-created the Fonky Family band, and would produce the entirety of the group's first album which released in 1997. He was also as an independent producer for other artists including Sat l'Artificier. The Fonky Family disbanded in 2007. Independent career in music In 2015, it was revealed that Gallart suffered from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. In 2018, in response to the lack of public information about the disease, Gallart published a book titled ''ALS for Dummies.''
