The University of Glamorgan () was a public university based in South Wales, that merged with University of Wales, Newport to form the University of South Wales in April 2013. The university was based in Pontypridd, in Rhondda Cynon Taf, with campuses in Trefforest, Glyntaff, Merthyr Tydfil, Tyn y Wern (The Glamorgan Sport Park) and Cardiff. The university had four faculties and was the only university in Wales which had no link with the University of Wales. Trefforest
Treforest () is a village in the south-east of Pontypridd, in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. It is situated in the Treforest electoral ward, along with the village of Glyntaff (or Glyn-Taf). It is part of the Pontypridd Town community. Treforest runs along the west bank of the River Taff (), while Glyntaff runs along its east bank. Treforest extends from immediately south-east of Ynysangharad Park, where the A4058 link from the A470 joins the A473 Broadway (south of the adjoining wards of Graig and Trallwn), all the way to join the Tonteg ward in the south (part of the community of Llantwit Fardre). South Wales Valleys
The South Wales Valleys () are a group of industrialised peri-urban valleys in South Wales. Most of the valleys run northsouth, roughly parallel to each other. Barry College
Barry College was a Further Education college in Barry, Wales which merged with Coleg Glan Hafren in September 2011 to form the new Cardiff and Vale College. The college admits approximately 10,000 students per year. It is partnered with the University of South Wales. Barry College offered many courses, including courses in: Languages; Hairdressing and Beauty; Electrical Engerneering; and Computing courses. The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama () is a conservatoire located in Cardiff, Wales. It has three theatres: the Richard Burton Theatre, the Bute Theatre, and the Caird Studio. Merthyr Tydfil College ( Welsh: Y Coleg Merthyr Tudful) is a further education college located in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales. From May 2006 to April 2013, it was a constituent college of the University of Glamorgan and thereafter, a college of the University of South Wales. Ellen Evans
Ellen Evans CBE (10 March 1891 – 26 September 1953) was a writer, teacher and principal of Glamorgan Training College in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, Barry. She was a leading advocate for teaching Welsh language, Welsh in schools. Life Evans was born in Gelli, Rhondda, Gelli in Wales in 1891. Her parents were John and Ellen Evans and they both came from Cardiganshire. She went to Rhondda secondary school and after becoming a pupil-teacher she went to the Aberystwyth University, University of Aberystwyth where she obtained a degree in 1914. In 1914 Glamorgan County Council created Glamorgan Training College to train women to teach and Hilda M Raw was the first Principal. Evans began work there in 1915. Glamorgan County Council
Glamorgan County Council was established in 1889 together with the administrative county of Glamorganshire under the Local Government Act 1888. The first elections to the council were held in January 1889. The council was abolished under the Local Government Act 1972 on 1 April 1974. It was replaced by Mid Glamorgan County Council, South Glamorgan County Council and West Glamorgan County Council.
