Polycelis Yangchengensis
''Polycelis'' is a genus of planarians in the family Planariidae found in the Holarctic region (North America and Eurasia). The genus was described in 1831 by Christian Gottfried Ehrenberg and currently has no consensus on the exact number of species. Description Species of ''Polycelis'' are characterized by having multiple eyes on the anterior region, similar to the related genera '' Seidlia'' and '' Ijimia''. It is differentiated from them by lacking both a highly developed muscle coat around the male atrium (as seen in ''Seidlia'') and adenodactyls (as seen in ''Ijimia''). Habitat Most species of ''Polycelis'' inhabit clean, high-altitudinal streams with water temperatures between 0 and 14 °C in Eurasia and North America. Species The following species are recognised in the genus ''Polycelis'':Tyler S, Schilling S, Hooge M, and Bush LF (comp.) (2006-2025Turbellarian taxonomic database Version 2.2 * '' Polycelis aurantiacus'' * '' Polycelis benazzii'' * '' Polycelis bili ...

Planarian
Planarians (triclads) are free-living flatworms of the class Turbellaria, order Tricladida, which includes hundreds of species, found in freshwater, marine, and terrestrial habitats.pp 3., "Planarians (the popular name for the group as a whole), or triclad flatworms (the more scientific designation of the same group), are acoelomate bilaterians". Planarians are characterized by a three-branched intestine, including a single anterior and two posterior branches. Their body is populated by adult stem cells called neoblasts, which planarians use for regenerating missing body parts. Many species are able to regenerate any missing organ, which has made planarians a popular model in research of regeneration and stem cell biology. The genome sequences of several species are available, as are tools for molecular biology analysis. The order Tricladida is split into three suborders, according to their phylogenetic relationships: Maricola, Cavernicola and Continenticola. Formerly, th ...
