Polish Folk Beliefs
Polish folk beliefs are a part of Polish culture concerned with traditional folk beliefs. The study of Polish folklore begun in 19th century. Polish Academy of Sciences Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography, founded in 1949, publishes a journal ''Etnografia Polska'' since 1956. Research Research on Polish folklore begins in the 19th century and is related to the fight to maintain national consciousness (see also: positivism in Poland, work at the grassroots). In 1802, Hugo Kołłątaj developed the first Polish research program on folklore, but the increase in interest in this field occurred mainly in the second half of the 19th century. In folkloristics, folk belief or folk-belief is a broad genre of folklore that is often expressed in narratives, customs, rituals, foodways, proverbs, and rhymes. It also includes a wide variety of behaviors, expressions, and beliefs. Hugo Kołłątaj
Hugo Stumberg Kołłątaj, also spelled ''Kołłątay'' (1 April 1750 – 28 February 1812), was a prominent Polish constitutional reformer and educationalist, and one of the most prominent figures of the Enlightenment in Poland, Polish Enlightenment. Zorian Dołęga-Chodakowski
Zorian Dołęga-Chodakowski (4 June 1784 – 17 November 1825), born Adam Czarnocki, was a Polish ethnographer and archaeologist. A Slavophile, he became known for his ethnographic field research and theories about the ancient Slavs, which did not convince academics but have influenced Polish cultural life. For much of his adult life he travelled the countryside without any money, collecting folk songs and other material. Chodakowski established several themes that became prominent in Polish Romanticism, notably a duality between native Slavic culture and imported Latin culture. His lifestyle as a homeless traveller inspired legends and he appears as a character in literary works from the 19th century. Erazm Majewski
Erazm Majewski (2 June 1858 — 14 November 1922) was a Polish archaeologist, biologist, sociologist, philosopher, economist, ethnographer, and novelist. He laid the foundations of archaeology in Poland; he was a pioneer in the protection of archaeological artefacts in the Polish lands. Biography Erazm Majewski was born on 2 June 1858, in Lublin, to Hipolit Majewski and Maria Zembrowskich. He started school in Lublin and then continued in Warsaw after his family moved there. Majewski's first scientific interests were in the field of natural science. Lucjan Malinowski
Lucjan Feliks Malinowski (; 27 May 1839 – 15 January 1898) was a Polish linguist, a researcher of regional dialects of Silesia, a traveller, a professor of Jagiellonian University, from the 1887 principal Seminar Slavic languages. Malinowski studied the history of the Polish language and etymology. He was the father of anthropologist Bronisław Malinowski. He is recognized as the father of Polish dialectology. Karol Baliński (born 21 May 1817 in Dzierzkowice, Lublin region of Poland – 10 January 1864 in Lwów Poland), also known as his pseudonym Karol z Jarosławca was a Polish poet, revolutionary activist, and member of radical national liberation groups such as Stowarzyszenie Ludu Polskiego.
