National Telefilm Associates
National Telefilm Associates (NTA) was a distribution company primarily concerned with the syndication of American film libraries to television, including the Republic Pictures film library. It was successful enough on cable television between 1983 and 1985 that it renamed itself Republic Pictures and undertook film production and home video sales as well. History NTA was founded by Ely Landau and Oliver A. Unger in 1954 when Ely Landau, Inc. was reorganized in partnership with Unger and Harold Goldman. NTA was the successor company to U.M. & M. TV Corporation, which it bought out in 1956. In October 1956, NTA launched the NTA Film Network, a broadcast syndication, syndication service which distributed both film and live programs to television stations not affiliated with NBC, CBS, or American Broadcasting Company, ABC (DuMont Television Network, DuMont had recently gone out of business). Nelson Leigh (born Sydney Talbot Christie; January 1, 1905 – July 3, 1985) was an American motion picture actor of the 1940s and 1950s. Early years Born in Mississippi, Leigh was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Christie. He was a graduate of the University of Southern California, class of 1929. Career Leigh appeared on Broadway in ''Hamlet'' (1945). Leigh made over 130 appearances in motion pictures of the 1940s and 1950s, mainly in supporting roles. Phillip Reed (born Milton LeRoy; March 25, 1908 – December 7, 1996) was an American actor. He played Steve Wilson in a series of four films (1947–1948) based on the '' Big Town'' radio series. Early years Reed was a star athlete at Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn and attended college for one year before going into acting. His name was changed after he went to Hollywood. Alan Furlan (13 April 1920 – 14 May 1997) was an Italian-American actor. Biography Born Aleardo Furlan in Farla, in the North Friuli region of Italy, Furlan acted in films in Europe and the United States, on Broadway and in commercials. On Broadway he appeared in productions such as ''Holiday for Lovers'' (1957), ''The Best House in Naples'' (1956), ''Idiot's Delight'' (1951) and ''Romeo and Juliet'' (1951) starring Olivia de Havilland. Shepard Menken (November 2, 1921 – January 2, 1999) was an American character and voice actor. Early life Menken began his career at the age of 11, when he started appearing on children's radio programs. After high school, Menken attended Columbia University, and later studied performing arts at the Neighborhood Playhouse Theatre and the Juilliard School of Music. Career Menken made his film debut in 1949 with a supporting role in '' The Red Menace'', and eventually appeared onscreen in 17 movies. Laura Solari ( Camaur; 5 January 1913 – 13 September 1984) was an Italian film actress. Early and personal life Laura Camaur was born on 5 January 1913, in Trieste, then part of Austria-Hungary. She was the daughter of sculptor and artist Antonio Camaur (1875-1919) and his wife, Maria Taucer. In addition to being prominent in Triestine art and intellectual circles, Antonio Camaur was a prominent Irredentist and advocated annexation of Trieste by Italy. In late 1915, Camaur went into exile because of his pro-Italian sympathies, and Laura lived in Northern Italy until her family's return to Trieste in 1919. After World War I, Laura Camaur came under the tutelage of the Taucer family who sent her to be educated in Vienna. In 1930, she married an older Hungarian army officer, Oscar Szemere, but the couple separated after his business failed. They were divorced in Reno, Nevada, in 1940.
