Plymouth And Vineyard Sound Railroad
The Plymouth and Vineyard Sound Railroad was a railroad in Barnstable County, Massachusetts. It was incorporated in 1861 as the ''Vineyard Sound Railroad Company'' to provide a rail link between Sandwich and Woods Hole on the western part of Cape Cod, but the name was changed in 1868 before the railroad was completed. As part of the legislative enactment for the name change, the proposal was to extend the line north from Sandwich and connect with the Old Colony and Newport Railway terminus at Plymouth. In 1871, the Plymouth and Vineyard Sound Railroad was sold to the Cape Cod Railroad Company who finally completed the 17.5-mile line between Buzzards Bay and Woods Hole on July 20, 1872. The portion to Plymouth was never constructed. Old Colony Railroad
The Old Colony Railroad (OC) was a major railroad system, mainly covering southeastern Massachusetts and parts of Rhode Island, which operated from 1845 to 1893. Old Colony trains ran from Boston to points such as Plymouth, Fall River, New Bedford, Newport, Providence, Fitchburg, Lowell and Cape Cod. For many years the Old Colony Railroad Company also operated steamboat and ferry lines, including those of the Fall River Line with express train service from Boston to its wharf in Fall River where passengers boarded luxury liners to New York City. The company also briefly operated a railroad line on Martha's Vineyard, as well as the freight-only Union Freight Railroad in Boston. Camp Edwards is a United States military training installation which is located in western Cape Cod in Barnstable County, Massachusetts. Originally the Massachusetts Military Reservation (which was another name for it until 2013) acquired in September 1935, in 1938 it was named after Major General Clarence Ransom Edwards, Clarence Edwards, commander of the 26th Infantry Division (United States), 26th Division in World War I. It is home to the 126th Aviation Regiment (United States), 3rd Battalion, 126th Aviation Regiment. In 1931, the National Guard deemed Camp Devens to be too small to meet their needs and began to look for a new training area, and two years later Cape Cod was identified as having a suitable environment to build a new camp. Buzzards Bay is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Bourne in Barnstable County, Massachusetts. The population was 3,859 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous of the five CDPs in Bourne. Geography Buzzards Bay is located at (41.751364, -70.613563).
