Planning Accreditation Board
The Planning Accreditation Board (PAB) is a non-profit educational accreditation organization based in Chicago, Illinois, United States. The PAB's mission is to promote excellence among planning programs and ensure high-quality education for future urban planners. History PAB was founded in 1984, when it was deemed necessary to assess the quality of urban planning education and encourage excellence in higher education. Prior to this formal accreditation process, there was a recognition program in place administered by the National Education Development Committee (NEDC) of the American Institute of Planners (AIP). The PAB reviews undergraduate and Graduate diploma, graduate urban planning degree programs in the United States and Canada. Programs must meet their standards and criteria in order to receive accreditation. American Planning Association
The American Planning Association (APA) is a professional organization representing the field of urban planning in the United States. APA was formed in 1978, when two separate professional planning organizations, the American Institute of Planners and the American Society of Planning Officials, were merged into a single organization. The American Institute of Certified Planners is now the organization's professional branch. Functions Like many professional organizations, the American Planning Association's main function is to serve as a forum for the exchange of ideas between people who work in the field of urban planning. Margarita McCoy
Margarita Piel McCoy (May 25, 1923 — March 31, 2016) was an American urban planner and educator. McCoy was among the first women in the United States to achieve academic tenure as a professor of urban planning, and the first to chair an urban planning department. Career Born to Rudolf Alfred Piel and Margarita Schiele, both from brewing families, McCoy is a descendant of the originators of Piels Beer. After finishing high school in Garden City, New York, in 1940, she attended Wells College and Northwestern University. However, McCoy ultimately transferred to Boston University, where she received in Bachelor of Arts in 1944. In 1959, she began her career by serving as the planning commissioner for Sudbury, Massachusetts. The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) is an American organization of degree-granting colleges and universities. Educational Accreditation
Educational accreditation is a quality assurance process under which services and operations of educational institutions or programs are evaluated and verified by an external body to determine whether applicable and recognized standards are met. If standards are met, accredited status is granted by the appropriate agency. In most countries, the function of educational accreditation is conducted by a government organization, such as the Ministry of Education. Urban planning education is a practice of teaching and learning urban theory, studies, and professional practices.
