Pittsburgh Light Rail
The Pittsburgh Light Rail (commonly known as The T) is a light rail system in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and surrounding suburbs. It operates as a deep-level subway in Downtown Pittsburgh, but runs mostly at-grade in the suburbs south of the city. The system is largely linear in a north-south direction, with one terminus just north of Pittsburgh's central business district and two termini in the South Hills. The system is owned and operated by Pittsburgh Regional Transit. It is the successor system to the streetcar network formerly operated by Pittsburgh Railways, the oldest portions of which date to 1903. The Pittsburgh light rail lines are vestigial from the city's streetcar days, and is one of only three light rail systems in the United States that continues to use the Pennsylvania Trolley (broad) gauge rail on its lines instead of . Station Square Station
Station Square station is a transit station on Pittsburgh Regional Transit's light rail network. It is the last Transit station on the south side of the Monongahela River. This station is named for the nearby Station Square mixed-use development and opened in 1985. Many South Hills residents access the facility using light rail service, and employees at the adjacent major office park, which includes the headquarters of WESCO International are also major beneficiaries of the stop. Several thousand commuters each weekday also rely on this stop as a park-and-ride station, using either a 160 space Pittsburgh Regional Transit lot or the privately owned garage in Station Square. The Red Line (formerly the 42S South Hills Village via Beechview) is a line on the Pittsburgh Light Rail system that runs between South Hills Village and Downtown Pittsburgh via the Beechview neighborhood. The companion route, the Blue Line, branches off north of Martin Villa – which closed in 2012 – and runs through Overbrook. PCC Streetcar
The PCC (Presidents' Conference Committee) is a streetcar (tram) design that was first built in the United States in the 1930s. The design proved successful in its native country, and after World War II it was licensed for use elsewhere in the world where PCC based cars were made. Allegheny Conference
The Allegheny Conference on Community Development is a nonprofit, private sector leadership organization dedicated to economic development and quality of life issues for a 10-county region in southwestern Pennsylvania, United States centered around the largest city in the region, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Pittsburgh City-County Building is the seat of government for the City of Pittsburgh, and houses both Pittsburgh and Allegheny County offices. The Pittsburgh & Steubenville Extension Railroad Tunnel, also known as the Panhandle Tunnel, was originally built for the Pittsburgh and Steubenville Extension Railroad in Pittsburgh. First Avenue (PAT Station)
First Avenue station is a station on Pittsburgh Regional Transit's light rail network. The station is part of the light rail's Downtown Pittsburgh free zone, and passengers embarking here may travel for free to any of the other stations within the zone (Steel Plaza, Wood Street, Gateway, North Side and Allegheny). The station was a new addition to the light rail system in 2001, located in the PNC Firstside Complex, just before the tracks dip into the subway tunnel.
