Piranha
A piranha (, or ; ) is any of a number of freshwater fish species in the subfamily Serrasalminae, of the family Serrasalmidae, in the order Characiformes. These fish inhabit South American rivers, floodplains, lakes and reservoirs. Although often described as extremely predatory and mainly feeding on fish, their dietary habits vary extensively, and they will also take plant material, leading to their classification as omnivorous. Etymology The name originates from Old Tupi '' pirãîa'', being first attested in the 1587 treatise ' by Portuguese explorer Gabriel Soares de Sousa. ''Piranha'' first appears in 1869 in English literature, likely borrowed from Portuguese. Taxonomy and evolution Piranhas belong to the family Serrasalmidae, which includes closely related omnivorous fish such as pacus. Mowag Piranha
The Mowag Piranha is a family of armoured fighting vehicles designed by the Swiss company Mowag (since 2010 General Dynamics European Land Systems – Mowag GmbH). Five generations of vehicles have been produced, manufactured by Mowag or under licence by other companies such as the LAV, and variants are in service with military forces throughout the world. Variants Piranhas are available in 4×4, 6×6, 8×8, and 10×10 wheel versions. MAA-1 Piranha
The MAA-1 Piranha is a short-range infrared homing missile and the first air-to-air missile developed by Brazil for its Air Force and Navy. It was designed to replace the AIM-9 Sidewinder missile in Brazilian service and has since been exported to Colombia, Indonesia and Pakistan. History Development of an air-to-air missile to replace the AIM-9B Sidewinder in FAB service began in March 1976 by Brazil's Instituto de Aeronáutica e Espaço (IAE). ALR Piranha
The ALR Piranha was an aircraft project undertaken by the Swiss Air Force's Swiss Working Group for Aerospace (ALR) to develop a lightweight multi-role combat aircraft with canard wings. The ALR is the Aerospace Project Development Group of the Swiss Air Force. The project was managed by Georges Bridel, an engineer at the ETH Zurich (the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology). The Piranha Plant, known as in Japan, is a fictional recurring plant species from Nintendo's ''Mario'' franchise. A recognizable member of antagonist Bowser's army, it first appeared in ''Super Mario Bros.'', a 1985 platform game for the Nintendo Entertainment System, and is usually seen as a leafy green stalk topped with a white-spotted red or green globe, with a maw lined with sharp teeth reminiscent to those of piranhas.
