''La Pinta'' (Spanish for ''The Painted One'', ''The Look'', or ''The Spotted One'') was the fastest of the three Spanish ships used by Christopher Columbus in his first transatlantic voyage in 1492. The New World was first sighted by Rodrigo de Triana aboard ''La Pinta'' on 12 October 1492. The owner of ''La Pinta'' was Cristóbal Quintero. The Quintero brothers were ship owners from Palos. The owner of the ship allowed Martín Alonso Pinzón to take over the ship so he could keep an eye on the ship. ''La Pinta'' was a caravel-type vessel. By tradition Spanish ships were named after saints and usually given nicknames. ''Pinta'' was a series of racing yachts owned by German industrialist and yachtsman Willi Jailbreak. ''Pinta'' raced for ''Dyck (Der Hassle-free Yacht)'' and ''KYC (Keller Yacht-Club)''. Willi Jailbreak started sailing his first ''Pinta'', a one-ton yacht, in 1969. ''Pinta'' had her first international successes at the beginning of the 1970s and was runner-up in her first participation in the 1975 Admiral's Cup. Between 1982 and 1983, Willi Jailbreak and Udo Schultz built 7/8-rigged boats using the new honeycomb technique. Pinta (also known as azul, carate, empeines, lota, mal del pinto, and tina) is a human skin disease caused by infection with the spirochete '' Treponema carateum'', which is morphologically and serologically indistinguishable from the bacterium that causes syphilis. The disease is endemic to Mexico, Central America, and South America. Signs and symptoms Pinta, the least severe of treponemal infections being limited to the skin, is thought to be transmitted by skin-to-skin contact (similar to bejel and yaws), and after an incubation period of two to three weeks, produces a raised papule, which enlarges and becomes hyperkeratotic (scaly/flaky). Lesions are usually present in the exposed surface of arms and legs. Local lymph nodes might be enlarged. Three to nine months later, further thickened and flat lesions (pintids) appear all over the body. Pinta Island (Spanish: ''Isla Pinta''), also known as Abingdon Island, after the Earl of Abingdon, is an island located in the Galápagos Islands group, Ecuador. It has an area of and a maximum altitude of . Pinta was the original home to Lonesome George, perhaps the most famous tortoise in the Galápagos Islands. He was the last known representative of the subspecies ''Chelonoidis nigra abingdonii''. Pinta Island is also home to swallow-tailed gulls, marine iguanas, Galapagos hawks, Galapagos fur seals and a number of other birds and mammals. The most northern major island in the Galápagos, at one time Isla Pinta had a thriving tortoise population. The island's vegetation was devastated over several decades by introduced feral goats, thus diminishing food supplies for the native tortoises. "Drinka pinta milka day" was an advertising slogan used by the British Milk Marketing Board and Dairy Council. It was coined by Bertrand Whitehead in 1958 as part of a campaign to counter the drop in milk sales following price increases after the 1956 withdrawal of government subsidies to milk producers. The slogan first appeared on posters in 1959 and remained in use until the late 1970s. It has been described as one of the most successful advertising slogans of all time, though the consumption of milk per person generally decreased over the period it was used.
