The Russell Hotel
The Russell Hotel or Hotel Russell is a defunct hotel located at 101–104 St. Stephen's Green South in Dublin, Ireland. The hotel had a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star in 1974. History The Russell Hotel was originally founded in the context of the temperance movement by a staunch supporter of the movement, Sir Thomas Russell, 1st Baronet. His son-in-law, Victor Marcel Charles Barrois de Sarigny, ran the hotel until 1929. According to an advertisement in 1927, it was already a well known restaurant with a full license. Only after the takeover by the Besson family in 1947 was the hotel associated with haute cuisine when Ken Besson took on Matt Byrne as sous chef from the Hotel Café Royal. Byrne had previously worked at another Besson owned hotel nearby, the Royal Hibernian Hotel on Dawson Street. Pierre Rolland (cyclist)
Pierre Rolland (born 10 October 1986) is a French professional road racing cyclist, who rides for UCI ProTeam . He is particularly known for his aggressive style of racing in the mountains. He is a two-time stage winner in the Tour de France and a stage winner in the Giro d'Italia. His most famous win to date came at Alpe d'Huez in the 2011 Tour de France. With his win on the legendary mountain, Rolland has his name on the sign at turn 16 together with Dutchman Joop Zoetemelk. His best overall finishes in a Grand Tour include 4th overall at the 2014 Giro d'Italia and 8th overall at the 2012 Tour de France. Alongside winning a stage in the 2011 Tour de France, Rolland also won the young rider classification. Pierre Rolland (military Officer)
Pierre Rolland (8 June 1772 in Montpellier – 27 December 1848 in Paris) was a French military officer. After distinguishing himself in 1809 at the Battle of Wagram as a major in the 2e Régiment de Cuirassiers, he was named a Baron of the First French Empire. His successful command of two legions of cuirassiers during the Battle of Borodino in the French invasion of Russia in 1812 led to his being appointed an Officer of the Legion of Honor on 11 October 1812. In September 1813, he was promoted to the rank of commander after a successful campaign in Dresden. He was promoted to brigadier general the following November after having lost his left leg a month earlier during a battle in Leipzig. Pierre Rolland C.M. (13 October 1931 - 29 November 2011) was a Canadian oboist, english horn player, radio broadcaster, music critic, music educator, and arts administrator. He is the father of cellist Sophie Rolland and violinist Brigitte Rolland. Life and career Born in Quebec City, Rolland began his professional training in 1947 at the age of 15 at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Montréal. He studied there for seven years under such teachers as Fernand Gillet (oboe), Jeanne Landry (harmony), Gilberte Martin (theory, solfège), and Jean Papineau-Couture (dictation). In 1954 he entered the New England Conservatory (NEC) where he continued to study under Gillet and earned a Bachelor of Music in 1957. During his years at the NEC he spent his summers studying at the Pierre Monteux School. He later pursued further studies at the Conservatoire de Paris in 1960–1961 with Étienne Baudo (oboe); Eugène Bigot and Louis Fourestier (conducting), and Maurice Franck (theory). ...

Baron Pierre-Jacques-Nicolas Rolland (17 June 1769 – 9 December 1837) was a French naval architect and engineer. Pierre-Jacques-Nicolas Rolland was born on 17 June 1769 in the harbour town of Brest, into the family of Pierre Nicolas Rolland, engineer-constructor of the Brest Port. He followed his father's footsteps and in 1785, at the age of 16 entered the service at Rochefort Port. In 1795 he fought the British fleet at the naval battle of Genoa on board the French ship ''Sans Culotte''.Better known as ''Orient'', as she was named at the Battle of the Nile Ten years later he was already an established engineer and shortly thereafter chief engineer.
