Photographer's Gallery
The Photographers' Gallery was founded in London by Sue Davies opening on 14 January 1971, as the first public gallery in the United Kingdom devoted solely to photography. It is also home to the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize, established in 1996 to identify and reward photographic talent and innovation, and the Bar-Tur Photobook Award. History Founder and director Sue Davies established the original home of the Photographers' Gallery in a converted Lyon's Tea Bar at No. 8 Great Newport Street in London's Covent Garden. Initially free to the public, the gallery offered a dedicated space for photography and photographers—the first of its kind in the UK. The inaugural exhibition on 14 January 1971 was ''The Concerned Photographer'', an exhibition first shown in New York and curated by photojournalist Cornell Capa. Zineb Sedira
Zineb Sedira (born April 1, 1963) is a London-based Franco-Algerian feminist photographer and video artist, best known for work exploring the human relationship to geography. Sedira was shortlisted for the 2021 Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize. Early life and education Zineb Sedira was born on April 1, 1963, to Abdul Rahman Sedira and Oumessaad Rouabah, immigrants from Algeria, in the Parisian suburb of Gennevilliers. Walid Raad
Walid Raad (Ra'ad) (Arabic: وليد رعد) (born 1967 in Chbanieh, Lebanon) is a contemporary media artist. The Atlas Group is a fictional collective, the work of which is produced by Walid Raad. He lives and works in New York, where he is currently a distinguished visiting professor of photography at Bard College, in addition to being a professor of photography at the Cooper Union School of Art. His works to date include film, photography, multimedia installations, and accompanying public performances. All, in one way or another, deal with the contemporary history of Lebanon with particular emphasis on the Lebanese Civil War of 1975–90. O'Donnell & Tuomey
O'Donnell + Tuomey is an architectural practice based in Dublin, Ireland, described by the authors of ''Architects Today'' as one of "the godfathers of contemporary Irish architecture". O'Donnell and Tuomey were the recipients of the 2015 Royal Gold Medal, awarded by the RIBA. The practice was established in 1988 by Sheila O'Donnell and John Tuomey, who had both previously worked for Stirling Wilford in London. Brett Rogers (curator)
Brett Rogers OBE (born 1954) is director of The Photographers' Gallery in London. She played a key role in establishing photography as a leading art form in the UK. Prior to joining The Photographers' Gallery, Rogers was the Deputy Director and Head of Exhibitions at the Visual Arts Department at the British Council. In 2014 she was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), for her services to the arts. In 2018 she received the Award for Outstanding Service to Photography (and Honorary Fellowship) from the Royal Photographic Society.
