Phlyctis Chilensis
''Phlyctis'' is a genus of lichenized fungi in the order Gyalectales, and the type genus of the family Phlyctidaceae. Members of the genus are commonly called blemished lichens. The genus was circumscribed by German lichenologist Julius von Flotow in 1850. The ''Dictionary of the Fungi'' (2008) estimated the widespread genus to contain 12 species, but several species have been described and added to the genus since then. Phlyctis Argena
''Phlyctis argena'' is a species of crustose lichen. Description ''Phlyctis argena'' has a thin crustose thallus that is white, greyish or green-grey in colour. The identification can be confirmed with the spot test application a drop of potassium hydroxide (K-test) to the thallus, which will turn yellow and then red. Range Widespread, including Africa, Asia, Europa and North America. Habitat ''Phlyctis argena'' usually grows as a generalist epiphyte on the bark of deciduous trees, especially ''Salix cinerea'' and ''Fraxinus excelsior''. It also occasionally grows on stone, such as gravestones. Ecology The lichen is a generalist epiphyte of deciduous trees and is acidophilic. Its abundance appears to have increased generally since the 1970s, possibly in responses to changes in air pollution levels Etymology The etymology of the genus name, ''Phlyctis'', comes from the obsolete medical term phlyctidium, meaning a large blister. The species epithet, argena, is derived from ...

Phlyctis Subhimalayensis
''Phlyctis subhimalayensis'' is a species of corticolous (bark-dwelling), crustose lichen in the family Phlyctidaceae. It is found in certain high-elevations regions of the Himalayas and Southwestern China. Taxonomy ''Phlyctis subhimalayensis'' was described by lichenologists Santosh Joshi and Dalip Kumar Upreti as a new species in 2012. The name of the species alludes to both its resemblance to ''Phlyctis himalayensis'' and its collection location in the Himalayas. The type specimen was found in Uttarakhand, India, on a ''Quercus semecarpifolia'' tree in the Pithoragarh district, at an elevation of . Description This lichen species has a , smooth, greenish-grey to greyish-white thallus, with a whitish or absent prothallus. The apothecia feature black and white exfoliating margins. The are hyaline, non-, and have 5 to 7 transverse septa; their dimensions are 20–35 μm long and 2–4 μm wide. The of the lichen is —spherical green algae. No lichen products we ...

Phlyctis Subagelaea
''Phlyctis subagelaea'' is a species of crustose lichen in the family Phlyctidaceae. It was described as new to science in 2006 from material collected in the tropical forests of southern India. Its species epithet, ''subagelaea'', refers to its strong resemblance to the related species ''Phlyctis agelaea''. Taxonomy ''Phlyctis subagelaea'' was formally described by the lichenologists Santosh Joshi and Dalip Kumar Upreti in 2006, based on a specimen collected from the Periyar Tiger Reserve in the Idukki district of Kerala, India. This specimen, deposited as the holotype at LWG (National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow), serves as the reference for this species. Description ''Phlyctis subagelaea'' forms a crustose, thin, and somewhat patchy thallus on tree bark. Its surface is whitish-grey with a rough, uneven, and cracked texture, lacking an outer layer. A —an initial growth layer at the edges of the thallus—may be indistinct or occasionally visible as a slightly b ...

Phlyctis Sirindhorniae
''Phlyctis sirindhorniae'' is a little-known species of corticolous (bark-dwelling), crustose lichen in the family Phlyctidaceae. It shares some similarities with ''Phlyctis agelaea'' but can be distinguished by its smaller , larger , and a higher number of ascospores per ascus. It is only known to exist in a specific location in northeastern Thailand. Taxonomy ''Phlyctis sirindhorniae'' was formally described by lichenologists Vasun Poengsungnoen, Kajohnsak Vongshewarat, and H. Thorsten Lumbsch in 2019. The type specimen was collected on the trunk of the tree '' Lophopetalum wallichii'' in a dry dipterocarp forest near Ramkhamhaeng University Chaloem Phrakiat Campus in Nong Bua Lamphu province, Thailand. The specific epithet ''sirindhorniae'' honours Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand for her Plant Genetic Conservation Project, which aims to preserve the country's plant varieties. Description ''Phlyctis sirindhorniae'' has a corticolous, crustose thallus, which is ...

Phlyctis Psoromica
''Phlyctis psoromica'' is a species of corticolous (bark-dwelling) crustose lichen in the family Phlyctidaceae. Native to New South Wales, Australia, it was described as new to science in 2011. This lichen is characterised by its whitish to pale blue-grey crustose thallus and distinctive secondary chemistry. Taxonomy ''Phlyctis psoromica'' was first scientifically described by Australian lichenologists John Elix and Gintaras Kantvilas. The species is similar to ''Phlyctis subuncinata'', '' P. sordidae'', and '' P. uncinatae'' but contains psoromic acid and has smaller . The type specimen was collected by the first author from the Stockyard Creek Rest Area in Cottan-Bimbang National Park (New South Wales) at an altitude of ; there, in a wet ''Eucalyptus'' forest, it was found growing on ''Acacia''. Description The thallus of ''Phlyctis psoromica'' is crustose, 40–80 μm thick, and whitish to very pale blue-grey or greenish-grey in colour. It is (cracked), scurfy or ...

Found in eastern North America, it was formally described as a new species in 2017 by Richard Clinton Harris, Zachary Muscavitch, Douglas Ladd, and James Lendemer. Because of its widespread occurrence throughout eastern North America and its abundant and stable populations, it is considered a species of least concern by the International Union for Conservation of Nature The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is an international organization working in the field of nature conservation and sustainable use of natural resources. ''Phlyctis lueckingii'' is a species of corticolous (bark-dwelling) lichen in the family Phlyctidaceae. Found in Sri Lanka, it was formally described as a new species by Gothamie Weerakoon and André Aptroot in 2016. The type was collected on the Dothalugala mountain, where it was found in a rainforest on the smooth bark of a tree. The species epithet honours lichenologist Robert Lücking. Characteristics of the lichen include its relatively large (0.2–0.3 mm in diameter), grey apothecia that occur in groups, and its fusiform (spindle-shaped) ascospores that have 7 septa and measure 27–29 by 5.5–6.5 μm.
