Philippines At The 2008 Summer Olympics
The Philippines competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. The country was represented by 15 athletes, 10 men and 5 women, who competed in 17 events across 8 sports. The Philippine government and private sector pledged a combined sum of P15-million (US$340,909) for any athlete competing in the games who would win the country its first gold medal. Though Willy Wang won the gold medal in Wushu, it was not included in the medal tally because the Wushu tournament was a demonstration sport in the Olympic Games. Though several national records were broken in swimming and weightlifting events, the country failed to win any medals for the third consecutive Olympiad. Philippine Olympic Committee
The Philippine Olympic Committee Inc. (POC) is the National Olympic Committee of the Philippines. The POC is a private, non-governmental organization composed of and serve as the mother organization of all National Sports Associations (NSAs) in the Philippines. Kuo Cheng-wei (; born 9 November 1983) is a Taiwanese professional archery, archer representing Chinese Taipei. He competed in Archery at the 2006 Asian Games and won a silver medal with the men's team consisting of himself, Chen Szu-yuan, Hsu Tzu-yi and Wang Cheng-pang 2008 Summer Olympics At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing Kuo finished his ranking round with a total of 659 points. Mark Pinili Javier is a professional archery, archer from the Philippines. He competed in Archery at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar but was defeated by the Korean Im Dong Hyun 113-104 in the 1/16 Elimination Round. During the 2006 Asian Games he landed 9th place in the individual category. An alumnus of Silliman University with a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology degree, Mark Javier was also a member of the Silliman University Dumaguete Archery Club (SUDAC) and the National Archery Association of the Philippines (NAAP). The men's individual archery event at the 2008 Summer Olympics was part of the Archery at the 2008 Summer Olympics, archery programme and took place at the Olympic Green Archery Field.
