Philippine Historical Association
The Philippine Historical Association (''Kapisanang Pangkasaysayan ng Pilipinas'' in Tagalog language, Tagalog) is a professional body, professional association of historians in the Philippines and is considered one of the oldest organizations of historians in the country. It was founded on September 18, 1955 by a group of prominent historians at Carbungco Restaurant located at Lepanto St., Manila. Among the group were Encarnacion Alzona, Gabriel Fabella, Gregorio Zaide, Nicolas Zafra, Celedonio Resurreccion, Teodoro Agoncillo and Esteban de Ocampo. The association is a non-stock, non-profit, non-sectarian and a non-partisan organization. Its national office is located in Manila. Philam Life Theater
The Philam Life Theater, also styled Philamlife Theater, was a performing arts center, performing arts venue at 1440 United Nations Avenue in the Ermita district of Manila, the Philippines. It opened in 1961 as the Philam Life Auditorium and was designed by Filipino architect Carlos Arguelles as part of the corporate headquarters for the Philam Life insurance company (now AIA Philippines). The International Style (architecture), International Style concert hall in the eastern annex of the Philam Life Building is known for its superior room acoustics, acoustics and elegant interior. The building including the theater was acquired by SM Development Corporation (SMDC) in September 2012. A petition was launched the following year to preserve the theater, with SMDC pledging to preserve the venue. The Philam Life Theater closed in March 2013. The Philippine Assembly (sometimes called the Philippine National Assembly) was the lower house of the Philippine Legislature from 1907 to 1916, when it was renamed the House of Representatives of the Philippines. The Philippine Assembly was the first national legislative body fully chosen by elections. The Assembly was created by the 1902 Philippine Organic Act of the United States Congress, which established the Insular Government of the Philippines. Along with an upper house (the appointed Philippine Commission), it formed the bicameral Philippine Legislature during the American colonial period. Carlos Quirino
Carlos Felix Lozada Quirino (January 14, 1910 – May 20, 1999) was a Philippine biographer and historian. Not only known for his works on biographies and history but also on varied subjects such as the old maps of the Philippines and the culinary legacy of the country. Life Carlos Quirino was born on January 14, 1910, in Manila to Jose Felix Arcinas Quirino and Dolores de los Santos Lozada. He was a nephew of Philippine president Elpidio Quirino. Carlos Quirino received his journalism degree in 1931 from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Known for his early biography of Jose Rizal entitled ''"The Great Malayan"'' (1940), he also wrote several works on Philippine history, as well as biographies of President Manuel Quezon and the painter Damian Domingo. Evelyn Ariola-Songco (' Ariola; born August 18, 1952) is a Filipino historian, professor, and educational administrator. She has been among the longest-serving deans of students in the Philippines as she held a rector's cabinet position in the University of Santo Tomas for more than two decades.
