Philippe Van Nedervelde
Philippe van Nedervelde (born 1967) is a Belgian virtual reality specialist, public speaker and media communicator with various futurist organizations, and a public advocate of technology and science. Early life and education Van Nedervelde was born in Belgium and is of Belgian-French nationality. He completed a B.A. in social sciences, an M.A in communication studies, and a postgraduate in interactive media and information science from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. He holds a Cambridge University Certificate of Proficiency in English, and is also fluent in Spanish, German, French, and Dutch. He is married and has two children. Het Denkgelag
Het Denkgelag is a Belgian association without lucrative purpose that organises skeptical conferences in Flanders. Het Denkgelag started out in 2012 as a series of discussion evenings of the skeptical organisation SKEPP, but nowadays functions financially and legally independent from SKEPP. Sousveillance
Sousveillance ( ) is the recording of an activity by a member of the public, rather than a person or organisation in authority, typically by way of small wearable or portable personal technologies. The term, coined by Steve Mann, stems from the contrasting French words ''sur'', meaning "above", and ''sous'', meaning "below", i.e. " surveillance" denotes the " eye-in-the-sky" watching from above, whereas "sousveillance" denotes bring the means of observation down to human level, either physically (mounting cameras on people rather than on buildings) or hierarchically (ordinary people doing the watching, rather than higher authorities or architectures). Transhumanism is a philosophical and intellectual movement which advocates the enhancement of the human condition by developing and making widely available sophisticated technologies that can greatly enhance longevity and cognition. Mutually Assured Destruction
Mutual assured destruction (MAD) is a doctrine of military strategy and national security policy which posits that a full-scale use of nuclear weapons by an attacker on a nuclear-armed defender with second-strike capabilities would cause the complete annihilation of both the attacker and the defender. It is based on the theory of rational deterrence, which holds that the threat of using strong weapons against the enemy prevents the enemy's use of those same weapons. The strategy is a form of Nash equilibrium in which, once armed, neither side has any incentive to initiate a conflict or to disarm. The term "mutual assured destruction", commonly abbreviated "MAD", was coined by Donald Brennan, a strategist working in Herman Kahn's Hudson Institute in 1962.
