Petrie is a relatively small lunar impact crater that is located to the east of the much larger walled plain Fabry. To the east is the smaller crater Rayet. Petrie Baronets
The Petrie Baronetcy, of Carrowcarden, Castleconnor, in the Barony of Tireragh in the County of Sligo, is a title in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 20 June 1918 for Sir Charles Petrie, Lord Mayor of Liverpool from 1901 to 1902. The third Baronet was a well-known historian. The fifth Baronet was a prominent diplomat and served as British Ambassador to Belgium from 1985 to 1989. Petrie Museum Of Egyptian Archaeology
The Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology in London is part of University College London Museums and Collections. The museum contains over 80,000 objects and ranks among some of the world's leading collections of Egyptian and Sudanese material. History The museum was established as a teaching resource for the Department of Egyptian Archaeology and Philology at University College at the same time as the department was established in 1892. The initial collection was donated by the writer Amelia Edwards. The first Edwards Professor, William Matthew Flinders Petrie, conducted many important excavations, and in 1913 he sold his collections of Egyptian antiquities to University College, creating the Flinders Petrie Collection of Egyptian Antiquities, and transforming the museum into one of the leading collections outside Egypt. Petrie Meston
Louis Petrie Meston (March 20, 1916 – November 22, 1963) was a provincial politician from Alberta, Canada. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta in 1963 as a member of the governing Social Credit caucus. He also served as a municipal councilor. Political career Meston began his political career serving as a municipal councilor and Reeve for the M. D. of Kneehill (now known as Kneehill County). Meston ran for a seat to the Alberta Legislature in the 1963 Alberta general election. He was nominated to stand as Social Credit candidate in the new electoral district of Three Hills on April 20, 1963. In the election Meston defeated two other candidates by a wide margin to pick up the seat for his party. Meston died on November 22, 1963, in Drumheller, Alberta. Petrie Island
Petrie Island is an island of parkland and recreational areas situated in the Ottawa River in the eastern part of the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The island has several nearby islands and the general collection of islands is also called Petrie Island. The islands were formed from clay and sand that was deposited following the end of the last ice age. The area incorporates provincially significant wetlands and wooded areas that provide habitat for plants, animals and birds, especially during spring and fall migration. Extensive flooding occurs during the spring. The size of the islands was reduced when water levels were raised by the hydroelectric dam at Carillon. The island was named after a local landowner Captain Archibald Petrie, an early inhabitant of Cumberland Township. In 1955, Donat Grandmaître purchased the island and set up a sand and gravel extraction facility. Petrie Ice Rises () is a group of ice rises extending in a north-south line, lying merged within the Wilkins Ice Shelf, to the west of Alexander Island, Antarctica. The group was seen from the air on a British Antarctic Survey (BAS) radio echo sounding flight around Alexander Island on 11 February 1967 and was later accurately positioned from US Landsat imagery. Petrie Bight is a reach (geography), reach of the Brisbane River in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The land to the north of the bight, centred on the area under the Story Bridge's northern point and around the Brisbane River to Customs House, Brisbane, Customs House is also known as Petrie Bight and was formerly a suburb of Brisbane. The area whilst still informally known as Petrie Bight, was absorbed into the suburbs of the Brisbane CBD and Fortitude Valley during consolidation of suburbs by the Brisbane City Council. With a resurgence in Brisbane residents interested in this part of the city and its history, has meant there is a possibility the Brisbane City Council and Queensland Government may once again reinstate Petrie Bight as a suburb to give the area a better sense of identity. Mount Petrie
Mount Petrie is a mountain in the south east of the city of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The 170 metre rise is sometimes referred to as Petrie Hill. It elevates semi-rural residential parts in the suburbs of Mackenzie and Burbank. The mountain was named after Andrew Petrie Superintendent of Works, Moreton Bay Colony, who climbed it to get his bearings when lost in the bush in the company of the Commandant of Moreton Bay Colony Major Cotton in 1838. It is believed that this was the first climbing of this mountain by white men. The southern summit of the mountain has an abandoned triangulation station with a collapsed radio tower, while the top of the mountain has a trig tower for taking bearings and measurements. At the top of the mountain one can get great views of Brisbane and Moreton Bay. For many years the undeveloped bushland around this hilly area was empty, except for the occasional dirt track.
