Peter Van Gestel
Peter van Gestel (3 August 1937, Amsterdam – 1 March 2019, Amsterdam) was a Dutch writer. Career Writing Van Gestel made his debut in 1962 with ''Drempelvrees'', a collection of stories. He received the Reina Prinsen Geerligsprijs for this book. In 1976, he published the book ''Ver van huis'' under the pseudonym Sander Joosten. He made his debut in children's literature with ''Schuilen onder je schooltas'' in 1979. He received the Vlag en Wimpel award for this book. He received the Nienke van Hichtum-prijs 1987 for his book ''Ko Kruier en zijn stadsgenoten'' (1985) with illustrations by Peter van Straaten. For his children's book ''Winterijs'' he won the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs 2002 as well as the Gouden Griffel 2002 award and the Nienke van Hichtum-prijs 2003. He became the first to be awarded these three awards for a single book. The Nienke van Hichtum-prijs (Dutch language, Dutch for Nienke van Hichtum Prize) is a biennial Dutch literary award for children's literature awarded by the Jan Campert-Stichting. Mariken (2000 Film)
''Mariken'' is a 2000 Dutch medieval family film directed by André van Duren, from a screenplay written by Kim van Kooten based on the children's book ''Mariken'' by Peter van Gestel, an adaptation of the early sixteenth-century text ''Mariken van Nieumeghen''. It stars Laurien Van den Broeck as the titular character alongside Jan Decleir, Willeke van Ammelrooy, Kim van Kooten and Ramsey Nasr. At the Cinekid Festival, Mariken was the opening film and won the audience award for best youth film. Gouden Uil
The Golden Book-Owl (De Gouden Boekenuil) is a Belgian prize for original Dutch language literature. Originally it was named Golden Owl (De Gouden Uil). It has been awarded annually since 1995. Development It has changed categories several times during the years. For the first five years it consisted of three columns: Fiction, non-fiction and children and youth books. As for 2000 to 2008 the non-fiction category was replaced by an audience award. In 2009 and 2010 it had even four categories: Literature, Youth Literature, Audience and Youth Audience. Since 2012 it is reduced to grown up literature prizes. The winner gets 25,000 euro and a work of art, the winner of the 100 reader's prize gets 2,500 euro and a MontBlanc pen.
