Major General Peter John Rowell is a British Army officer who currently serves as commandant of the Defence Academy. Military career Rowell was commissioned into the Royal Engineers on 3 May 1995. He was deployed to Afghanistan as chief of staff for 4th Mechanised Brigade before being promoted to brigadier and becoming commandant of the Royal School of Military Engineering The Royal School of Military Engineering (RSME) Group provides a wide range of training for the British Army and Defence. Major General (United Kingdom)
Major general (Maj Gen) is a "two-star" rank in the British Army and Royal Marines. The rank was also briefly used by the Royal Air Force for a year and a half, from its creation in April 1918 until August 1919. In the British Army, a major general is the customary rank for the appointment of division commander. In the Royal Marines, the Commandant General holds at least the rank of major general. A major general is senior to a brigadier but subordinate to a lieutenant general. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding valuable service in a wide range of useful activities. 4th Light Brigade Combat Team, is a brigade formation of the British Army, currently based in Catterick, North Yorkshire as part of 1st (United Kingdom) Division. It was previously known as 4th Infantry Brigade and Headquarters North East, and before that as 4th Mechanized Brigade and before that 4th Armoured Brigade. The brigade, now known as the 'Black Rats', was formed in 1939 and fought in the Second World War, in the Western Desert Campaign and in North Africa. Major General Andrew Michael Roe, (born 1971) is a British academic administrator and retired senior British Army officer. Since October 2024, he has been Rector of Exeter College, Oxford. Early life and education Roe was born on 1971 in Keighley, West Yorkshire, England. Military career Roe was commissioned into the Green Howards in April 1992. He became commanding officer of the 2nd Battalion, the Yorkshire Regiment, in April 2011.
