Peter Pollák
Peter Pollák (born 20 April 1973) is a Slovak politician who has served as a Member of the European Parliament. Early life and education Born 20 April 1973 in Levoča, Pollák is of Romani origin. His father worked as an excavator in the Czech Republic whilst his mother was a cleaner in a kindergarten. Pollák has four siblings, three of whom are educated although his brothers did not obtain a diploma. Political career During the 2012 Slovak parliamentary election Parliamentary elections were held in Slovakia on 10 March 2012 to elect the 150 members of the National Council. The elections followed the fall of Prime Minister Iveta Radičová's Slovak Democratic and Christian Union – Democratic Party-led ..., Pollák ran in the eighth place of the OĽaNO candidates and finished 14th by winning 6072 preferential votes. Slovakia (political Party)
Slovakia ( sk, Slovensko), known as Ordinary People and Independent Candidates ( sk, Obyčajní ľudia a nezávislé osobnosti, OĽaNO, before 2023), is a conservative political party in Slovakia. Founded in 2011 by former businessman Igor Matovič, the party has been characterized primarily as populist, championing anti-corruption, anti-elitist and anti-establishment sentiments. The party served as the parliamentary opposition during two electoral terms: 2012–2016 and 2016–2020. In 2020, it emerged victorious in the parliamentary election and subsequently formed a coalition government. In government, the party advocated for conservative, familistic policies through the implementation of expanded social welfare and pro-natalist measures, while concurrently opposing the promotion of LGBT and reproductive rights. Parliamentary elections were held in Slovakia on 10 March 2012 to elect the 150 members of the National Council.
