Percy Raymund Smith (12 January 1920 – 10 February 2002) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Percy Smith (Canadian Politician)
Gerald Albert Percy Smith, (22 December 1921 – 23 January 2009) was a Liberal party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was a barrister and lawyer by career. Smith was born at a farm in Lower Newcastle, New Brunswick. Following graduation, he enlisted in the Canadian army and was stationed in England with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders. Lieutenant Smith headed a platoon which landed in Normandy on D-Day. His platoon pushed inland, where Percy and other members were taken prisoners of war. He later escaped, but was recaptured and imprisoned in Germany in August 1944. The POW camp was liberated by the American troops in May 1945. Percy left the army with the rank of captain. After returning home from the war, Percy worked in a mine in NWT, and then attended Law School at the University of New Brunswick and graduated from there in 1950. Stephenson Percy Smith (11 June 1840 – 19 April 1922) was a New Zealand ethnologist and surveyor. He researched and wrote about the origins of the Māori people and was one of the founders of the Polynesian Society. While his research has been criticised as flawed, it set a foundation for ethnological study in New Zealand. Personal life Stephenson Percy Smith, known as Percy, was born on 11 June 1840 at Beccles, Suffolk, in England. He was the eldest son of Hannah Hursthouse and John Stephenson Smith, who emigrated to New Zealand when he was nine years old. They left London on the New Zealand Company ship ''Pekin'' on 9 August 1849, arriving in Wellington, New Zealand, Wellington on 26 December. Percy James Smith (1880–1959) was an English footballer and football manager, who played for Preston North End and Blackburn Rovers. Playing career He started his playing career with Hinckley Town before joining Preston in 1902. He quickly achieved success, helping Preston to the Second Division title in 1904, becoming the division's top scorer in the process with 26 goals, and to the runners-up position in the Football League in 1906. After eight seasons at Preston, he moved to local rivals Blackburn Rovers in 1910, where he again achieved success claiming the League title in 1912 and again in 1914, as well as reaching the FA Cup Semi-finals in 1911 and 1912. After World War I, he finished his playing career with brief spells at Fleetwood and Barrow. Percy John Delf Smith (March 1882 – 30 October 1948) was a British artist who worked in engraving, painting, lettering, calligraphy and book design. Early life Born Percy John Smith in Dulwich, London, Delf Smith took an apprenticeship with furniture maker Frederick Staddon before studying at Camberwell and the Central Schools of Arts and Crafts. His instructor in lettering at Camberwell was Edward Johnston, an extremely influential calligrapher and lettering artist whose Arts and Crafts movement style of lettering and use of Roman capitals had a strong influence on Delf Smith's career. Johnston's successor was Graily Hewitt, one of Johnston's pupils; Hewitt when he left recommended Delf Smith for the position himself.
