Perak Coronation Cup
The Perak Coronation Cup is a Malaysian Thoroughbred horse race run annually since 1985 at the Perak Turf Club racecourse in Ipoh, Perak. Held during the third week of November, the 1600 meter (1 mile or 8 furlongs) race on turf is open to horses age three and older. Due to repairs to the racecourse, the 1997 race had to be run at a distance of 1800 meters. The Coronation Cup was inaugurated in 1985 to commemorate the installation of Azlan Shah as the Sultan of Perak. Milestones W. K. Seow won the Coronation Cup as a jockey in 1987 then ten years later as a trainer. In 2000, Catherine Treymane became the first female jockey to win the race. Perak Turf Club
Perak Turf Club is the major Thoroughbred horse racing facility in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia. The Club is a part of the Malayan Racing AssociationThe Perak Turf Club was established in 1884; it was the first exclusive turf club ever built in Perak. The establishment of the Perak Turf Club at Taiping was the idea of Sir Frank Swettenham, who was passionate about horse racing. The new race course was located at Waterfall Road, later changed to Race Course Road, near the Lake Gardens. It held ordinary racing in the Federated Malay States—the major tournaments held at Penang, Selangor or Singapore. In 1906, it had a membership of about 250. The present course is at Waterfall Road, Taiping, which is 7 furlongs in length. There was an old course, situated about three miles away from Taiping, at which the current races were then run. Saifuddin Azizi ( ug, سەيپىدىن ئەزىزى; 12 March 1915 – 24 November 2003), also known as Seypidin Azizi, Saif al-Dīn ʿAzīz, Saifuding Aizezi and Saifuding, was the first chairman of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China.
