Mint (candy)
A mint or breath mint is a food item often consumed as an after-meal refreshment or before business and social engagements to improve breath odor. Mints are commonly believed to soothe the stomach given their association with natural byproducts of the plant genus ''Mentha''. Mints sometimes contain derivatives from plants such as peppermint oil or spearmint oil, or wintergreen from the plant genus '' Gaultheria''. However, many of the most popular mints citing these natural sources contain none in their ingredient list or contain only trace amounts. History The production of mints as a discrete food item can be traced back to the 18th century with the invention of Altoids. The popularity of mints took off in the early 20th century, with the advent of mass urbanization and mass marketing. Advertising for mints focused on their convenience, and on the socially isolating effects of bad breath. These advertisements targeted young people generally, and young women particularly. Mi ...

Hard Candy
A hard candy (American English), or boiled sweet (British English), is a sugar candy prepared from one or more sugar-based syrups that is heated to a temperature of 160 °C (320 °F) to make candy. Among the many hard candy varieties are stick candy such as the candy cane, lollipops, rock, aniseed twists, and '' bêtises de Cambrai''. "Boiled" is a misnomer, as sucrose (a disaccharide) melts fully at approximately 186 °C. Further heating breaks it into glucose and fructose molecules before it can vaporize. Most hard candy is nearly 100% sugar by weight, with a tiny amount of other ingredients for color or flavor, and negligible water content in the final product. Recipes for hard candy may use syrups of sucrose, glucose, fructose or other sugars. Sugar-free versions have also been created. Creation Recipes for hard candy use a sugar syrup, such as sucrose, glucose or fructose. This is heated to a particular temperature, at which point the candy maker remov ...

Peppermint (EP)
''Peppermint EP'' is the debut EP released by Canadian rock band Sloan. It was released on their own label, Murderecords, in 1992. The EP was recorded at Sound Market Studios in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada by Terry Pulliam, who also engineered the recording. Three songs – "Marcus Said", "Underwhelmed", and "Sugartune" – were also included on the band's first full-length album, '' Smeared''; "Underwhelmed" was entirely re-recorded, while "Marcus Said" and "Sugartune" were remixed versions of the original ''Peppermint'' recordings. Jennifer Pierce of Jale provides additional backing vocals on two songs, "Marcus Said" and "Torn". The cover is a photo of Jason Larsen, a friend of the band's, after whom the band is named. Larsen was originally called "Slow One" by his French-speaking boss, a nickname which, when said in the boss' French accent, sounded more like "Sloan". Larsen agreed they could name the band after him as long as he was on the cover of their first album. ...

Peppermint OS
Peppermint OS is a Linux distribution based on Debian and Devuan Stable, it uses the Xfce desktop environment. It aims to provide a familiar environment for newcomers to Linux, which requires relatively low hardware resources to run. Design principles Peppermint OS ships with few native applications and a traditional desktop interface. What originally made it unique was its approach to creating a hybrid desktop that integrated both cloud and local applications. In place of traditionally native applications for common tasks (word processing, image editing), it ships with the custom Ice application, which allows users to create site-specific browsers (SSB's). In Peppermint OS, the open-source Firefox browser is used to enable a site-specific browser (SSB) for cloud applications. Instead of opening a browser and then visiting an application site, a dedicated browser window is integrated into the system for a specific application. Support for Firefox (alongside Chromium and Chr ...
