United States Cable News
Cable news channels are television networks devoted to television news broadcasts, with the name deriving from the proliferation of such networks during the 1980s with the advent of cable television. In the United States, the first nationwide cable TV news channel to launch was CNN in 1980, followed by Financial News Network (FNN) in 1981 and CNN2 (now HLN (TV network), HLN) in 1982. CNBC was created in 1989, taking control of FNN in 1991. Through the 1990s and beyond, the cable news industry continued to grow, with the establishment of several other networks, including, Fox News, Fox News Channel, MSNBC, and specialty channels such as Bloomberg Television, Fox Business, Fox Business Network, and ESPNews, ESPN News. Inside Politics
''Inside Politics'' is a political talk show, broadcast on CNN. Originally hosted by Catherine Crier and Bernard Shaw, and then Shaw and Judy Woodruff, the show ran from 1992 to 2005 before being cancelled. The program was revived in 2014 with John King as host. What was a Sunday morning talk show was then expanded to additional weekday broadcasts in 2016. Abby Phillip began hosting the Sunday edition in 2021, renamed as ''Inside Politics Sunday''. In April 2023, CNN announced that Dana Bash would take over as permanent host while John King would depart the program to work on a new project. Also in 2023, it was announced that Manu Raju would take over from Abby Phillip on ''Inside Politics Sunday'' (as Phillip became host of the new weeknight program '' CNN NewsNight with Abby Phillip''). ''CNN NewsNight'' is a live news program which airs on the CNN and CNN International networks. It airs at 10:00 PM ET on weeknights and is currently hosted by Abby Phillip. During its first run, the show focused on investigative journalism and had a strong emphasis on interviews. It included segments such as The Whip (which quickly previewed segments from four reporters at large), On the Rise, and Segment 7. The Morning Papers segment, known as The Rooster, featured a brief preview of compelling or interesting headlines from the next day's newspapers around the world. The segment concluded with the weather forecast in Chicago as provided in the ''Chicago Sun-Times''. Anderson Hays Cooper (born June 3, 1967) is an American broadcast journalist and political commentator who anchors the CNN news broadcast show ''Anderson Cooper 360°''.
