People's Choice (band)
People's Choice was an American funk band formed in 1971 in Philadelphia by Frank Brunson and David Thompson. While they had several vocalists, their biggest hits were instrumentals. Career Their debut single, "I Likes To Do It" on Phil-L.A. of Soul Records, got to #9 on the U.S. ''Billboard'' R&B chart and #38 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. A short time later Leon Huff saw People's Choice in concert, and told Brunson that he wished the group had recorded "I Likes To Do It" for Philadelphia International Records. Huff (without Kenny Gamble on this occasion) signed the group in 1974, and it was with him that they had another hit single with " Do It Any Way You Wanna", a Philly dance classic. It sold over one million copies in three months, and was awarded a gold disc by the R.I.A.A. in November 1975. This song was used in Fred Williamson's 1976 film ''Death Journey''. Collectables Records is an American reissue record label, founded in 1980 by Jerry Greene. Greene also formed the Lost Nite and Crimson record labels. Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums is a music chart published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine that ranks R&B and hip-hop albums based on sales in the United States and is compiled by Luminate. The chart debuted as Hot R&B LPs in the issue dated January 30, 1965, in an effort by the magazine to further expand into the field of rhythm and blues music. Frederick Robert Williamson (born March 5, 1938), nicknamed "the Hammer", is an American actor, filmmaker, and former American football player, a defensive back who played mainly in the American Football League (AFL) during the 1960s. He was a top sports star during the decade, and become a leading man in blaxploitation and action films beginning in the 1970s. WIlliamson played in college at Northwestern University, and played in the National Football League (NFL) with the Pittsburgh Steelers for one season. In the AFL, Williamson played with the Oakland Raiders for four seasons, becoming a three-time AFL All-Star (1961, ' 62, ' 63).
