People's Artist of Azerbaijan () is the honorary title and award granted for contribution to the development of Azerbaijani culture in the fields of visual art and painting. The People's Artist of the Azerbaijani SSR, People's Artists of the Azerbaijan SSR (1944–1990) was a precursor award given during the time of the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic, Soviet Union. History In May 22, 1998, the honorary title "People's Artist of Azerbaijan" was established by Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, along with some other titles. The President of Azerbaijan confers the honorary title on his initiative, as well as on the proposal of the National Assembly (Azerbaijan), National Assembly and the Politics of Azerbaijan, Cabinet of Ministers. The title is awarded only to citizens of Azerbaijan. According to the decree, the honorary title of "People's Artist of Azerbaijan" cannot be awarded to the same person repeatedly. Ogtay Sadigzade
Ogtay Seyid Huseyn oghlu Sadigzade ( az, Oqtay Seyid Hüseyn oğlu Sadıqzadə, 24 February 1921 – 20 December 2014) was a Soviet and Azerbaijani visual artist. He was awarded the title People's Artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan (1992), laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Azerbaijan (2014), Personal pensioner of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan (2002). Biography Ogtay Sadigzade was born on 21 February 1921 in Khizi. From 1935 to 1939, he studied at the Baku Art Technical College and attracted the attention of art critics with his early works. In 1941, as a member of a repressed family, Ogtay Sadygzade was exiled, but despite the difficult conditions he found himself in, he continued his creativity. After returning to Baku in 1946, he began to engage in book graphics and achieved success in this field. Fuad Salayev
Fuad Salayev is an Azerbaijani sculptor. He was born in 1943. He graduated from Azerbaijan State Art School named after A. Azimzade and he goes on to Moscow and graduated from Surikov Moscow Art Institute. He was involved in many exhibitions of the Soviet Union, and he had a lot of creative projects with the Russian Academy of Arts. He created the monument of Sergei Yesenin which was his first major work. But the poet's monument in Russia at that time was not raised yet. He is also the vice-rector of the Academy of Arts now. Mirnadir Zeynalov
Mirnadir Mirali oghli Zeynalov ( az, Mirnadir Mirəli oğlu Zeynalov, 12 November 1942 – 10 March 2021) was an Azerbaijani painter, People's Artist of Azerbaijan (2006). Biography Zeynalov was born on 12 November 1942, in Baku. In 1963, he graduated from Azim Azimzade Art School, and then in 1973 from the Faculty of Graphics of the Moscow Polygraphic Institute. He was a full member of Union of Artists of Azerbaijan and "New Era" World Academy of Arts. Zeynalov's professional painting career began in the 1970s. In the early years of his career, he started to create realistic and later abstract paintings. The artist's works were exhibited in Moscow, Kyiv, Houston, Los Angeles and other cities, and in 2013 they gained value at the Sotheby's auction in London. Fazil Najafov
Fazil Imamverdi oghlu Najafov (, 16 February 1935 – 11 July 2023) was an Azerbaijani sculptor and painter. He was a People's Artist of Azerbaijan (2002) and one of the founders of the avant-garde style in Azerbaijani sculpture. Biography Fazil Najafov was born in Baku in 1935. In 1955, he graduated from Azim Azimzade State Art School. He graduated from the Surikov Moscow Art Institute in 1961.
