Henry Peirse
Henry Peirse (1695 – 2 October 1759) of Bedale in Yorkshire was an English landowner and Member of Parliament. He was born the eldest son of John Peirse of Lazenby, Yorkshire and inherited the manor of Bedale from his grandfather. In the 1730s he transformed the old manor house into a Palladian mansion, renaming it Bedale Hall. He served as a Member of Parliament for Northallerton (UK Parliament constituency), Northallerton in Yorkshire between 1713 and 1715 and between 1722 and 1754. He married Anne Johnson on 15 February 1754 and had one son, Henry Peirse (younger), Henry, who was also MP for Northallerton for many years. He was assassinated in Birkshire on 2 October 1759. Richard Peirse (Royal Navy Officer)
Admiral Sir Richard Henry Peirse, (4 September 1860 – 10 July 1940) was a senior Royal Navy officer during the First World War. Naval career Peirse joined the Royal Navy in 1873 and, in 1885, developed a new naval director which was to become the fire-control system used in all ships with large guns. Promoted to captain in 1900, he commanded during the Second Boer War. Promoted to rear admiral in February 1909, Peirse was appointed Commander-in-Chief, East Indies Station in 1913. Then promoted to vice admiral in October 1914, he served in the First World War taking part in the attack on Smyrna in 1915, where he outgunned the Turkish Fleet. He continued in his role on the East Indies Station until December 1915. He was promoted to admiral in March 1918. After the war Peirse became Naval Member of the Central Committee of the Board of Invention and Research. He retired from the navy in January 1919. Air Vice Marshal Sir Richard Charles Fairfax Peirse, (16 March 1931 – 8 February 2014) was a senior Royal Air Force officer who served as Defence Services Secretary from 1985 to 1988. Early life Peirse was born on 16 March 1931, the son of Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Peirse. He was educated at Bradfield College. The Beresford, later Beresford-Peirse Baronetcy, of Bagnall in the County of Waterford, is a title in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 21 May 1814 for John Beresford. He was an admiral in the Royal Navy and also represented Coleraine, Berwick-on-Tweed, Northallerton and Chatham in the House of Commons. Beresford was the illegitimate son of George Beresford, 1st Marquess of Waterford, and the brother of William Beresford, 1st Viscount Beresford. He was succeeded by his son, the second Baronet, from his first marriage to Mary Molloy. He died without surviving male issue and was succeeded by his nephew, the third Baronet. Lieutenant-General Sir Noel Monson de la Poer Beresford-Peirse KBE, CB, DSO (22 December 1887 – 14 January 1953) was a British Army officer. Family background Beresford-Peirse was the son of Colonel William John de la Poer Beresford-Peirse and Mary, daughter of Thomas Chambers of Aberfoyle, County Londonderry. He was educated at Wellington College, Berkshire and at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich and commissioned into the Royal Artillery. Beresford-Peirse was great-grandson to Adm. John Beresford, and a cousin to the Beresford-Peirse baronets. He was married three times. The first marriage (in 1912) was to Hazel Marjorie, daughter of J.A. Cochrane, Riverina, Australia.
