Pebbles Box
''The Pebbles Box'' is a 5-LP box set of mid-1960s garage rock and psychedelic rock recordings, primarily by American bands. Several years later, a similar 5-CD box set was released that was called the '' Trash Box''. The Pebbles Box purports to collect the first five volumes of the Pebbles series, although there are fewer songs than on the original LPs: 72 total tracks on the five discs, as compared with 86 on the original LPs. Also, as is generally true of the CD reissues of these five volumes (though not nearly to the same extent), the tracks differ significantly on all five discs as compared to both the original Pebbles LPs and the later Pebbles CDs in the corresponding volumes; and the surf rock rarities on '' Pebbles, Volume 4'' have been eschewed entirely. Garage rock (sometimes called garage punk or 60s punk) is a raw and energetic style of rock music that flourished in the mid-1960s, most notably in the United States and Canada, and has experienced a series of subsequent revivals. ZZ Top
ZZ Top is an American rock band formed in Houston, Texas, in 1969. For almost 56 years, it consisted of vocalist-guitarist Billy Gibbons, drummer Frank Beard (musician), Frank Beard, and bassist-vocalist Dusty Hill prior to his death in 2021. ZZ Top developed a signature sound based on Gibbons' blues style and Hill and Beard's rhythm section. They are known for their live performances, sly and humorous lyrics, and the matching appearances of Gibbons and Hill, who wore sunglasses, hats, and long beards. Billy Gibbons
William Frederick Gibbons (born December 16, 1949) is an American rock musician, best known as the guitarist, primary vocalist, and only constant member of ZZ Top. He began his career in Moving Sidewalks, who recorded '' Flash'' (1969) and opened four dates for the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Gibbons formed ZZ Top in late 1969 and released '' ZZ Top's First Album'' in early 1971. He has also maintained a solo career in recent years, starting with his first album '' Perfectamundo'' (2015). The Moving Sidewalks
Moving Sidewalks were an American rock band formed in 1966 from Houston, Texas. They released several singles and an album, before bassist Don Summers and keyboardist Tom Moore were drafted into the army, bringing the band to an end. Vocalist/guitarist Billy Gibbons and drummer Dan Mitchell then formed ZZ Top. History Gibbons founded Moving Sidewalks in the mid-1960s and they quickly drew a large following, especially among the Houston "teen scene". They recorded several singles and one full-length album, '' Flash''. Their single "99th Floor" was well received, and topped the charts at No. 1 in Houston for six weeks. Zakary Thaks
The Zakary Thaks were an American garage rock band from Corpus Christi, Texas, United States, which formed in the mid-1960s. History The band developed out of The Riptides, a teen surf group which included Chris Gerniottis (vocals), Pete Stinson (lead guitar), Wayne Harrison (bass), Shelby Jordan (rhythm guitar), and Rex Gregory (drums). The group then became The Marauders, adding lead guitarist John Lopez and David Fore on drums with Gerniottis on vocals, Gregory on bass, and Stinson on rhythm guitar. In 1966, they replaced Fore with drummer Stan Moore, and became The Zakary Thaks – the name being a mutated version of one seen in a magazine. Electric Prunes
The Electric Prunes are an American psychedelic rock band, formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1965. Much of the band's music was, as music historian Richie Unterberger described it, possessed of "an eerie and sometimes anguished ambiance." Their most successful material was by songwriters Annette Tucker and Nancie Mantz, though the group also penned their own songs. Incorporating psychedelia and elements of embryonic electronic rock, the band's sound was marked by innovative recording techniques with fuzz-toned guitars and oscillating sound effects. ''Pebbles, Volume 11'' is a compilation album among the LP's in the Pebbles series and has no relation to the '' Pebbles, Volume 11'' CD that was released many years later. The cover was adapted and colorized for a later Pebbles double CD, '' Essential Pebbles, Volume 2''. Release data This is the first album in the Pebbles series to be released by AIP Records (as #AIP-10001), in 1983. It is also the first release on the AIP label. Notes on the tracks Bomp! Records evidently had numerous tracks all lined up when they decided to continue the Pebbles series, because this is one of the best albums of the entire series.
