Paul Mahoney (English Judge)
Sir Paul John Mahoney Order of St Michael and St George, KCMG (born 1946) is a British jurist who was a Judge of the European Court of Human Rights. He was the first President of European Union Civil Service Tribunal (2005–2011). Education Mahoney studied law at the University of Oxford, graduating Bachelor of Arts and later proceeding Master of Arts (Oxbridge), Master of Arts in 1967. He subsequently studied law at University College London and obtained a Master of Laws degree in 1969. Academia From 1967 to 1973, Mahoney was a lecturer at the UCL Faculty of Laws, law faculty of University College London. From 1972 to 1974, Mahoney was a barrister in London. In 1988, Mahoney was appointed a visiting professor at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon. The Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George is a British order of chivalry founded on 28 April 1818 by George, Prince of Wales (the future King George IV), while he was acting as prince regent for his father, King George III. It is named in honour of two military saints, Michael (archangel), Michael and Saint George, George. The Order of St Michael and St George was originally awarded to those holding commands or high position in the Mediterranean Sea, Mediterranean territories acquired in the Napoleonic Wars, and it was subsequently extended to holders of similar office or position in other territories of the British Empire. Nicolas Bratza
Sir Nicolas Dušan Bratza (born 3 March 1945) is a British lawyer and a former President of the European Court of Human Rights. Bratza was the Judge of the Court in respect of the United Kingdom, the second person to hold the post as a full-time appointment since Protocol 11 to the European Convention on Human Rights established the Court as a permanent body. His term ended on 31 October 2012. He was appointed as a board member of the International Service for Human Rights in May 2013. Early life Bratza was born on 3 March 1945 and educated at Wimbledon College, a state-maintained Society of Jesus, Jesuit school for boys.
