Patti Brill
Patti Brill (March 8, 1923 – January 18, 1963), born Patricia Eloise Brilhante, was an American actress, singer, and dancer. Early life and education Brill was born in San Francisco, the daughter of Manuel Perry Brilhante and Warrena Joan Owen Her father was from Hawaii. Career Brill was a child model, toured in a stage show called " ''Meet the People"'' as a teen, and became a Hollywood starlet during World War II. She went overseas with the USO to entertain American troops. "Her elfin face and figure, her wide eyes and spirited wit, set her apart from the general run of glamour gals," reported a 1943 profile. In 1951 she headlined in a national tour of ''It's a Great Day'', a variety show that included wheelchair users doing physical stunts and dance acts. ''Let There Be Stars'' was a variety television series broadcast on ABC in 1949, the first program to originate in Hollywood for a major TV network. It debuted on October 16, 1949, and ended on November 27, 1949. It was a high-budget show for its time, and used new production techniques such as "Teleparencies", transparencies which could be displayed in the background, faded in or out or dissolved, and changed on the fly. The idea of the program was to highlight up-and-coming actors and actresses who had been found by a talent scout working to cast new performers in Broadway shows. ''Variety'' magazine praised the premiere episode in a review, but the program's success did not last. The first seven episodes are stored at the Paley Center for Media. Plot Sach just lost his job as an assistant to a private detective, but he wasn't paid. Slip goes with him down to the detective's office to demand payment, but finds the office empty. A woman enters the office and mistakes Slip for the detective and convinces him to take on a case to find her sister after offering a $50 retainer. The only clue they have is the spiritualist Dr. Carter. They track him down, only to see him being murdered. Slip is knocked unconscious and when he wakes a woman is there calling the police.
