Patrick Van Kerckhoven
Patrick van Kerckhoven (born 1970, alias DJ RuffneckVan Slooten, Lieuwe.Terugkeer DJ Ruffneck zaterdag in het Paard: 'Ik ben nooit weggeweest' (in Dutch), Den Haag FM, November 8, 2018.) is a darkcore or gabber music, gabber DJ and record producer, producer, originating from Alblasserdam, Netherlands. An active DJ since 1985, Kerckhoven has also been involved with various record labels. In 1989, he and Jayant Edoo formed 80 Aum Records. When that closed in 1991, he went on to form Ruffneck Records and its imprints Ruffex and Ruff Intelligenze. After a disagreement with parent label XSV Music, Kerckhoven formed Gangsta Audiovisuals and its imprint Supreme Intelligence (record label), Supreme Intelligence, then in 2001, Kerckhoven also closed these and moved all artists to Enzyme Records. Enzyme has three imprints: Enzyme K7, Enzyme VIP and Enzyme X. Darkcore
Darkcore (also referred to as darkside hardcore) is a music genre, music subgenre of breakbeat hardcore in the UK rave scene, that emerged from late 1992. It is recognised as being one of the direct precursors of the genre now known as drum and bass. Origins By late 1992, breakbeat hardcore was beginning to fragment, and darkcore was one of the subgenres to emerge, in contrast with 4-beat. Darkcore is often characterised by dark-themed sampling (music), samples such as horror movie elements, cries for help, sinister sounding stabs and synthesizer notes, along with syncopated breakbeats in addition to 4-to-the-floor beats and low frequency basslines. It also saw the introduction of effects such as pitch shifting and Audio time stretching and pitch scaling, time stretching to create mood. The Supreme Intelligence, also known as the Supremor, is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics, an artificial intelligence that rules the alien race known as the Kree. The Supreme Intelligence has appeared in various media outside comics, including animated series and video games. "In the Hall of the Mountain King" () is a piece of orchestral music composed by Edvard Grieg in 1875 as incidental music for the sixth scene of act 2 in Henrik Ibsen's 1867 play ''Peer Gynt''. It was originally part of Opus 23 but was later extracted as the final piece of ''Peer Gynt'', Suite No. 1, Op. 46. Its easily recognizable theme has helped it attain iconic status in popular culture, where it has been arranged by many artists (see Grieg's music in popular culture). The English translation of the name is not literal. Dovre is a mountainous region in Norway, and "gubbe" translates into (old) man or husband. "Gubbe" is used along with its female counterpart "kjerring" to differentiate male and female trolls, "trollgubbe" and "trollkjerring". Enzyme Records
Enzyme Records is a Netherlands-based hardcore record label. Founded in 2001 by Patrick van Kerckhoven as a continuation of Kerckhoven's previous labels, Gangsta Audiovisuals and Supreme Intelligence Records, to 'restart' his labels and continue in a new style of hardcore without being drowned in pointless criticism". Gabber Music
Gabber ( ; ) is a style of electronic dance music and a subgenre of hardcore, as well as the surrounding subculture. The music is more commonly referred to as hardcore, and is characterised by fast beats, distorted and heavy kickdrums, with dark themes and samples. This style was developed in Rotterdam and Amsterdam in the 1990s by producers like Marc Acardipane, Paul Elstak, DJ Rob, and The Prophet, forming record labels such as Rotterdam Records, Mokum Records, Pengo Records and Industrial Strength Records. The word ''gabber'' comes from Amsterdam Bargoens slang and means "friend". Gabber remains highly popular in the Netherlands, and has seen a major resurgence in recent years. XSV Music
The Royal Naval Auxiliary Service (RNXS) was a uniformed, unarmed, civilian volunteer service, administered and trained by the Royal Navy to operate in the ports and anchorages of the United Kingdom in an emergency. It maintained training units, and vessels at most major ports in the UK. and was formed in 1963 from the amalgamation of the Royal Naval Minewatching Service, Royal Naval Mine-watching Service (RNMWS) and Admiralty Ferry Crew Association in response to the perceived nuclear threat to British ports. The service was disbanded on 31 March 1994 due to Ministry of Defence (United Kingdom), Ministry of Defence (MOD) cuts. Most vessels from its fleet were transferred to the Royal Navy or sold, with the exception of XSV ''Loyal Volunteer'', which was struck by a ro-ro ferry while berthed in Ipswich Harbour and was later scrapped.
