Patrick McGuire is a Scottish solicitor and solicitor advocate. He is a partner with personal injury law firm Thompsons Solicitors Scotland. He is known for his campaigning on issues relating to the rights of victims of accident and disease, including calling for and serving as the Recognised Legal Representative in three of the four Public inquiries held in Scotland since the Inquiries Act 2005 came into force: the ICL / Stockline Public Inquiry; the Vale of Leven Hospital Public Inquiry (''C. difficile''); and the Penrose Inquiry (infected blood products causing Hepatitis C and HIV). ''Clostridioides difficile'' infection (CDI or C-diff), also known as ''Clostridium difficile'' infection, is a symptomatic infection due to the spore-forming bacterium ''Clostridioides difficile''. Symptoms include watery diarrhea, fever, nausea, and abdominal pain. It makes up about 20% of cases of antibiotic-associated diarrhea. Antibiotics can contribute to detrimental changes in gut microbiota; specifically, they decrease short-chain fatty acid absorption which results in osmotic, or watery, diarrhea. Vale of Leven District General Hospital or simply the Vale of Leven Hospital is a district general hospital in Alexandria, West Dunbartonshire, Scotland. It is managed by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. History The hospital has its origins in the Henry Brock Hospital which opened in a converted private house in 1924. After the Second World War it was decided to commission a purpose-built facility: the new hospital was designed by Keppie Henderson & Joseph Gleave and built on a site adjacent to Henry Brock Cottage Hospital between 1951 and 1955. Ann McKechin (born 22 April 1961) is a former British Labour Party politician and was Member of Parliament (MP) for Glasgow Maryhill from 2001 until 2005 and Glasgow North from 2005 to 2015. Stockline Plastics Factory Explosion
On 11 May 2004, the ICL Plastics factory (commonly referred to as Stockline Plastics factory), in the Woodside district of Maryhill, Glasgow in western Scotland, exploded. Nine people were killed, including two company directors, and 33 injured, 15 seriously. The four-storey building was largely destroyed. Response Approximately 100 people worked in the four-storey building. At midday BST (11:00 UTC), an explosion occurred and the building collapse occurred instantly.
