2000 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series
The 2000 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series was the sixth season of the Craftsman Truck Series, the third highest stock car racing series sanctioned by NASCAR in the United States. Greg Biffle of Roush Racing was crowned the series champion, giving Ford its first Truck Series championship and ending Chevrolet's five-year streak. The season was marred by the death of Tony Roper in the penultimate race of the season at Texas Motor Speedway. His death was the third of three driver fatalities across the nationwide NASCAR circuits in 2000 that included Kenny Irwin Jr. and Adam Petty. Lawlers, Western Australia
Lawlers is a ghost town on the Old Agnew Road, northeast of Perth, Western Australia, in the Shire of Leonora in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia. Gold was discovered in the area by Anderson, Hall and Heffernan, a party of Prospecting, prospectors that left Cue, Western Australia, Cue in 1892. Patrick Lawler and his party arrived in 1893 and had little success until they left and returned in 1894. The townsite was surveyed and gazetted in 1896 and named after Patrick Lawler. A ten Stamp mill, stamp battery was established about northwest of town in 1899 on a five-acre lease. A police station/courthouse was built the same year; it was closed in 1927, reopened in 1938, then closed permanently in 1950. In 1996 it was used as an office by the gold mining company Plutonic Resources. At its peak, Lawlers was the state's third-largest town, with a population of 8,000. Lawlers Gold Mine
The Lawlers Gold Mine is a Gold mining, gold mine located 23 km south west of Leinster, Western Australia, owned by Gold Fields. Gold Fields purchased the mine in late 2013 and combined it with its nearby Agnew Gold Mine. The process plant of the mine was subsequently sold and dismantled while no mining was carried out at Lawlers. It was formerly operated by Barrick Gold and part of its Yilgarn South operation, which consisted of Lawlers, the Darlot-Centenary Gold Mine and the Granny Smith Gold Mine. 1952 Ireland Rugby Union Tour Of South America
The 1952 Ireland rugby union tour of South America, was a series of rugby matches played in Chile and Argentina. This tour by the Ireland national rugby union team coincided with the death of Eva Peron, the wife of Juan Peron, the President of Argentina. As a result, it was almost cancelled. Eva Peron died on 26 July, six days after the Irish squad had departed Dublin. However, after playing their first game in Santiago, Chile, the team travelled onto Buenos Aires and completed the tour as planned.
