''Book M'' is the third studio album by Secret Chiefs 3, released on 11 September 2001 by Web of Mimicry. According to a post the band made on Facebook, "Our distributor’s release date was September 18. Our label’s release date was Sept. 11. Our trusty label’s mail-order timed the CD shipment to land on people’s doorsteps right at that fateful moment on Sept 11. So if you’re one of the people who remembers this record playing during the period of major conflagration and upheaval, no you did not hallucinate that, and no you are not alone. A majority of people got the record on Sept 11." Founding member Trevor Dunn appeared on only one song, due to scheduling conflicts with the metal supergroup Fantômas in which he also performs. Heroes And Villains
"Heroes and Villains" is a song by the American rock band the Beach Boys from their 1967 album ''Smiley Smile'' and their unfinished ''Smile'' project. Written by Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks, Wilson envisioned the song as an Old West-themed musical comedy that would surpass the recording and artistic achievements of "Good Vibrations". The single was Brother Records' first release and failed to meet critical and commercial expectations, although it was a hit record, peaking at number 12 in the U.S. and number 8 in the UK. The song was Wilson and Parks' first collaboration. Parks characterized the song as "historically reflective" and a "visual effort" that was meant to match the ballads of Marty Robbins. He said the lyrics were based on the early history of California, including references to the involvement of the Spanish and American Indians. ''Smiling Pets'' is a multi-artist tribute album consisting of experimental/alternative cover versions of Beach Boys songs from ''Pet Sounds'' (1966) and the never-finished ''Smile'' project. It was released exclusively in Japan by Sony Records in March 1998. Background Some song titles differ from how they have been officially published by the Beach Boys. The most prominent of which is "Tones", which is a cover version of the instrumental ''Smile'' track "Holidays". Prior to ''Smiling Pets'', most ''Smile'' material was only sparsely available on the compilation '' Good Vibrations: Thirty Years of The Beach Boys'' (1993). Because "Holidays" had not been officially released until more than a decade later on ''The Smile Sessions'' (2011), it is highly likely that unauthorized bootlegs with erroneous track lists were consulted by ''Smiling Pets'' artists. Mike Love
Michael Edward Love (born March 15, 1941) is an American singer and songwriter who co-founded the Beach Boys with his cousins Brian, Dennis, and Carl Wilson and their friend Al Jardine. Characterized by his nasal tenor and occasional bass-baritone singing, Love has been one of the band's vocalists and lyricists for their entire career, contributing to each of their studio albums and serving as their frontman for live performances. During the mid-1960s, he was one of Brian's main collaborators, co-writing hit records such as " Fun, Fun, Fun" (1964), "I Get Around" (1964), "Help Me, Rhonda" (1965), " California Girls" (1965), and "Good Vibrations" (1966). "Good Vibrations" is a song by the American rock music, rock band the Beach Boys that was composed by Brian Wilson with lyrics by Mike Love. Ciocârlia (Romanian Folk Tune)
Ciocârlia (meaning ''the skylark'') is a Romanian tune, allegedly composed by the Romani-Romanian pan flute player Angheluş Dinicu in the virtuosic style of the ''urban lăutarească'' music from late 19th century. Angheluş Dinicu first presented the tune in 1889 at the inauguration of the Eiffel Tower. However, the most famous version would become that of his grandson Grigoraș Dinicu, that adapted the tune for violin. George Enescu also was inspired by ''Ciocârlia'' for his composition the Romanian Rhapsody No. 1 for orchestra. ''Ciocârlia'' has been covered numerous times, but because it is a piece of '' lăutărească music'' and not a piece of '' Romanian peasant music'' it cannot be considered representative for the Romanian peasant spirit. ''The Owl in Daylight'' is a novel Philip K. Dick was writing at the time of his death in 1982. He had already been paid an advance for the book by the publisher and was working against a deadline. After his death, his estate approached other writers about the possibility of someone completing the novel based on his notes, but that proved to be impossible, as he had never formally outlined the story. Dick viewed the novel as his ''Finnegans Wake''.
