Pashin
Valentin Mikhailovich Pashin (; 25 July 1937 – 15 December 2013) was a Russian naval engineer. Pashin was born in 1937, in the Saratov Oblast of the Russian SSR. He studied at the Leningrad Shipbuilding Institute, from which he graduated in 1960, and joined the Krylov Research Institute, a shipbuilding research unitary enterprise where he would spend his entire career, and lead the institute for over 22 years.''World Who's Who – Europa Biographical Reference'', Routledge. Awards and honours In 1985, Pashin was awarded the USSR State Prize. He became a Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 1991, and a Full Member in 1995. In October 1994, Pashin was awarded the Gold Star medal as a Hero of the Russian Federation for "courage and heroism displayed during the performance of special operations".

The Krylov State Research Center () is a Russian shipbuilding research and development institute, which operates as a federal state-owned unitary enterprise. The institute is named after Aleksey Krylov, the Russian naval designer and mathematician who was one of its first superintendents, and is based in Saint Petersburg. A unitary enterprise () is a government-owned corporation in Russia and some other post-Soviet states. Unitary enterprises are business entities that have no ownership rights to the assets that they use in their operations. The Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS; ''Rossíyskaya akadémiya naúk'') consists of the national academy of Russia; a network of scientific research institutes from across the Russian Federation; and additional scientific and social units such as libraries, publishing units, and hospitals. The title Hero of the Soviet Union () was the highest distinction in the Soviet Union, awarded together with the Order of Lenin personally or collectively for heroic feats in service to the Soviet state and society. The title was awarded both to civilian and military persons. Overview The award was established on 16 April 1934, by the Central Executive Committee of the Soviet Union. The first recipients of the title originally received only the Order of Lenin, the highest Soviet award, along with a certificate (грамота, ''gramota'') describing the heroic deed from the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.
