Pasan Ko Ang Daigdig (film)
''Pasan Ko ang Daigdig'' () is a 1987 Philippine drama film directed by National Artist Lino Brocka. The screenplay written by Rene Villanueva and Orlando Nadres was based on the comics serial written by Pablo S. Gomez. It stars Sharon Cuneta, Loretta Marquez, and Tonton Gutierrez. It was the first time Brocka and Cuneta worked together on a movie. In 2007, the film was remade into a television drama series of the same name by GMA Network as the fourth installment of ''Sine Novela'' and stars Yasmien Kurdi as Lupe and JC de Vera as Carding. Summary The film tells the story of Lupe (Sharon Cuneta), a young woman living in the slums of Smokey Mountain who wishes to climb out of poverty through her singing. She is also intent on helping her crippled mother. Lino Brocka
Catalino Ortiz Brocka (April 3, 1939 – May 22, 1991) was a Filipino film director. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential and significant filmmakers in the history of Philippine cinema. His filmography often addressed the country's societal issues, and despite his initial closeness with the Marcos family, his work eventually grew to have anti-authoritarian themes in opposition to the Marcos dictatorship. Smokey Mountain
Smokey Mountain was a large landfill once located in Tondo, Manila. History Smokey Mountain operated for at least 50 years, consisting of over two million metric tons of waste. The flammable substances in decomposing waste led to fires that resulted in many deaths. On March 19, 1993, a joint venture agreement was made between the National Housing Authority (NHA) and R-II Builders Inc. (RBI) to build a low-cost housing project at Smokey Mountain. On August 15, 2007, this agreement was declared valid by the Supreme Court of the Philippines, Philippine Supreme Court. The area was officially closed in 1995. The site was turned into public housing for the impoverished people living in the slums surrounding the landfill.
