Pas-de-Calais's 8th Constituency
The 8th constituency of the Pas-de-Calais is a French legislative constituency in the Pas-de-Calais ''département''. Description Pas-de-Calais' 8th constituency is based around the town of Saint-Omer, close to the border with Nord. Politically the seat bears a close resemblance to others in Pas-de-Calais as it strongly supported the left. This constituency elected Michel Lefait in 1997 after a brief tenure by the conservative Rally for the Republic who captured the seat in the landslide victory at the 1993 elections. 1997 French Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in France on 25 May and 1 June 1997 to elect the 11th National Assembly (France), National Assembly of the French Fifth Republic. It was the consequence of President Jacques Chirac's decision to call the legislative election one year before the deadline. In March 1993 the right won a large victory in 1993 French legislative election, the legislative election and a comfortable parliamentary majority. Two years later, the Rally for the Republic, RPR leader Jacques Chirac was elected President of France promising to reduce the "social fracture". Lutte Ouvrière (, ) is a Trotskyist communist party in France, named after its weekly paper. Arlette Laguiller was the party's spokeswoman from 1973 to 2008 and ran in each presidential election until 2012, when Nathalie Arthaud was the candidate. Robert Barcia (Hardy) was its founder and central leader. Lutte Ouvrière is a member of the Internationalist Communist Union. Together (coalition)
Ensemble (, stylised in all caps), known in full as Ensemble pour la République (''Together for the Republic''), is a liberal political coalition in France created by Emmanuel Macron. Formed in November 2021 as Ensemble Citoyens, it makes up the presidential majority and includes Renaissance (RE, formerly known as En Marche and La République En Marche!), Democratic Movement (MoDem), Horizons, En commun, and the Progressive Federation. Renaissance (RE) is a political party in France that is typically described as liberal and centrist or centre-right. The party was originally known as (EM) and later (, LREM, LaREM or REM), before adopting its current name in September 2022. Benoît Potterie (; born 23 July 1967) is a French optician and politician of La République En Marche! (LREM) who served as a member of the National Assembly of France from 2017 to 2022, representing the department of Pas-de-Calais. Political career In parliament, Potterie served as member of the Committee on Economic Affairs (2017-2019) and the Finance Committee (2019-2020) before moving to the Cultural and Education Affairs Committee.
