Party of Hungarians of Ukraine (KMKSZ) ( uk, «КМКС» Партія угорців України; ) is a Hungarian party in Zakarpattia Oblast, Western Ukraine, which was founded in February 2005. It holds 8 seats on the Zakarpattia Oblast Council. The Hungarian Cultural Federation in Transcarpathia (KMKSZ) is associated with the political party. The party is also allied with the governing party of Hungary, Fidesz. The Hungarians in Ukraine ( hu, Ukrajnai magyarok, uk, угорці в Україні, tr. ''uhortsi v Ukraini'') number 156,600 people according to the Ukrainian census of 2001 and are the third largest national minority in the country. Hungarians are largely concentrated in the Zakarpattia Oblast (particularly in Berehove Raion and Berehove city), where they form the largest minority at 12.1% of the population (12.7% when native language is concerned). Western Ukraine
Western Ukraine or West Ukraine ( uk, Західна Україна, Zakhidna Ukraina or , ) is the territory of Ukraine linked to the former Kingdom of Galicia–Volhynia, which was part of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Austrian Empire, Austria-Hungary and the Second Polish Republic, and came fully under the control of the Soviet Union (via the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic) only in 1939, following the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact. Fidesz – Hungarian Civic Alliance (; hu, Fidesz – Magyar Polgári Szövetség) is a right-wing populist and national-conservative political party in Hungary, led by Viktor Orbán. It was formed in 1988 under the name of Alliance of Young Democrats () as a centre-left and liberal activist movement that opposed the ruling Marxist–Leninist government.
