Parliamentary Constituencies In Leicestershire And Rutland
The ceremonial county of Leicestershire (which includes the unitary authority of Leicester), is divided into 11 parliamentary constituencies - 3 borough constituencies and 8 county constituencies. One of these is a cross-county boundary constituency with Lincolnshire also including the small historic county of Rutland, which was administratively a district of Leicestershire from 1974 to 1997. Since 1997, Rutland has been a separate unitary authority. Liz Kendall
Elizabeth Louise Kendall (born 11 June 1971) is a British politician who has served as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions since July 2024. A member of the Labour Party, she has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Leicester West since 2010. Kendall was born in Abbots Langley, Hertfordshire, and studied at the University of Cambridge. Leicester West is a constituency in Leicestershire. The seat was created in 1974, and existed in a previous form from 1918 to 1950. Jonathan Michael Graham Ashworth (born 14 October 1978) is a British former Labour and Co-op politician who was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Leicester South from 2011 to 2024. Shockat Hussain Adam Patel (born November 1972) is a Malawi-born British businessman, optometrist, and independent politician who has served as the Member of Parliament for Leicester South since 2024. In September 2024 he was a founder of the Independent Alliance. Early life and career Adam was born in Malawi, into a Muslim Memon family of Gujarati descent and grew up in Leicester, where he attended sixth-form college. He studied optometry at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. He is a director of Sask Optics which is owned by him, his wife and his brother Ismail Patel. Shivani Rajnikant Raja (born 21 July 1994) is a British Conservative Party politician. She has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Leicester East since 2024. She gained the seat from Claudia Webbe. Early life and career Shivani was born in Rushey Mead, Leicester, to parents who arrived in the UK from India and Kenya in the 1970s. She studied at Herrick Primary School, Soar Valley College, and Wyggeston and Queen Elizabeth I College.
